RADNOR — It took two hours to play the first five-and-a-half innings. Twenty-two hours later, the clubs reconvened at the same field, wearing the same uniforms with the same umpires calling ’em like they saw ’em.

For the completion of the Delco Baseball League’s final game of its 2011 finals series, the fans took the folding chairs from their car trunks and the players took their places along the respective baselines for pre-game warmups.

All for what amounted to be six outs in a span of 10 minutes.

Kind of anticlimactic, right? Not to the guys who won the title, it wasn’t.

“It’s not how we would’ve scripted it. It’s not how we wanted any of it to go down,” said Wayne’s Eric Soring, “but we’ll take it. I mean, the end result is you want to be the one that wins the last game of the season.”

Wayne established its place as the most-decorated club in league history Thursday night, finishing off Aston Valley, 13-8, to win Game 5 of the championship series.

The victory gave Wayne its 13th championship, more than any other that’s staked its place in the 104-year-old semipro summer league. Tinicum A.C., with its 12 titles, took a back seat when Wayne’s Brian Giacobetti flipped the ball to Jim Vankoski, retiring John Plasha to end the season.

This was Wayne’s first championship since 2009, knocking off the team that eliminated it from the 2010 tournament, then went on to win it all.
