Town League Updates
Awards Night is planned for Thursday March 25th and is for those who play in the Junior Division, Senior Division or the Travel League. There will be door prizes for the players and raffles for the adults. Awards will include a Sportsmanship Award and a Most Improved Player Award; one of each award given will be given to a player on each of the town teams. Also, trophies for the playoff winners and runner-ups in each Division. See below for more information on the planning for the Award Night.
Coffee Lovers Raffle is Underway
Attention Parents and Others:
WGBA is holding a COFFEE LOVERS raffle with all proceeds benefiting the end of season Awards Night. Here are the details:
1st Place: Keurig Home Brewing System and a case of Keurig K-cups
2nd Place: Dunkin Donuts Gift Basket w/gift card, coffee, travel cup
3rd Place: MaryLou's Gift Basket w/gift card and coffee
Tickets are $3 for 1 or $10 for 4. The drawing will be at the Awards Night to be held of the end of March.
Tickets will be on sale at the following locations/dates:

Sunday from 5:30-7:30 @ Whitman Middle School

Awards Night, Thursday March 25th, 6:00-8:00PM
Planning is ongoing for our Awards Night at the Whitman Knights of Columbus. Tickets must be purchased in advance and we are limited to a total seating capacity of 180 persons. Shoot-a-thon, March 14th

Fall Basketball Clinic originally planned for Friday Nov 13th has been cancelled.

WGBA Apparel Is Now Available
Purchase WGBA Apparel on-line at Rockland Athletic Supplies. The current list of items available with the WGBA logo include: tank tops, t-shirts, long sleeve t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, shorts, boxer shorts, flannel pants, backpack and other items. If there’s an item that you would like to purchase that is not on our list let us know at WGBAFundraising@gmail.com. A portion of all sales will be donated to the league to help fund our program.

Awards Night Held April 2nd
Awards Night was held at the Knights of Columbus. Trophies were presented to the League Champions, League Runner-Ups, Most Improved (each team) and Best Sportsmanship (each team). The 6th grade travel team was recognized for their Playoff 1st Place Finish. Those who volunteered and made the year success were also recognized. Thanks to Jessica DiRamio for organizing the event and all the volunteers and contributors who made the night so enjoyable.

Shoot-a-thon
Photos have now been posted in the Photo Album - take a look. The annual Shoot-a-thon for WGBA players was held March 15th with over 70 girls participating. Look in the Information, Forms and Schedules Folder on the left for results. Thanks to Marty Bulman and the other volunteers who helped out.
Basketball Clinic Held March 26th
Thanks to all who joined us for the 1st annual Sarah Behn clinic! It was definitely a huge success with over 50 girls in attendance. Congratulations to JULIA D. for winning a scholarship to a Behn Camp this summer. Watch for details later this year for our next clinic. Special thanks to Jessica DiRamio for organizing the event.
Championship Games Summary (2008-2009 Season)
This year’s Championship games for both the Junior and Senior Divisions were played on Thursday March 12th. The Junior Division Champion is Sovereign Bank and the Senior Division Champion is Conway Insurance.
In the Junior Division: Sovereign Bank, coached by John Corr, defeated Carpet Max of Whitman, coached by Carl & Kathy Guglietti, by a score of 18 to 14. The first half was a defensive struggle as Sovereign led at half time 5 to 3. Sovereign maintained a narrow lead throughout. The game was controlled at the end by clutch foul shooting by Sovereign (7 of 14) as Carpet Max pressed on defense to try to turn the game around. Sovereign scoring was done by Casey C (13), Leia M (2), M.J. (2) and Kristen D (1). Carpet Max scoring was done by Chloe P (7), Alyson W (3), Kayla M (2) and Rachel K (2) and a strong defensive effort was turned in by Rachel K and Chloe P.
In the Senior Division: Conway Insurance, coached by Chris Kinsherf, defeated D.B. Gurney Company, coached by Shawn Herron, by a score of 25 to 15. As with the Junior Division game, the first half was controlled by defense as Conway took an 8 to 5 lead into half time. In the second half Conway, led by the scoring of Jillian B (9 points in the second half), gradually built on its lead and was in control at the end. D.B. Gurney made a few small runs to keep within striking distance until near the end. For Conway, scoring was done by Megan K (10), Jillian B (9), Justina L (4), and Rachel D (2). D.B Gurney scoring was done by Marina K (5), Tori C (4), Taylor S (2), Sheila B (2), Corrine (1) and Shannan C (1).
