State of West Seneca Baseball—Kevin Chodkowski (President)
I want to take a moment to update everyone on the state of West Seneca Youth baseball. First of all I would like to thank Joe Orsene and Tim Breen for their hard work and dedication the last few years as they have moved on from the West Seneca Baseball Board. I would like to welcome our new members Vince Vanderlip, Russ Campise, Don Borkowski, Bryan Lawrence, and Glenn Susabach. They will be joining myself, Joe Hoestermann, Don Morey, Dan Wagner, Matt Schermerhorn and Ricky Albano. I believe with this years board will come great enthusiasm and new visions. I would like to address some questions I have received lately.
“Why has my registration fee gone up in the last few years? “
The previous town board eliminated our reimbursement for umpires which equated to anywhere from $10,000—$12,000 per year ($30 per player) depending on the amount of players that season. The cost of baseball went from $75 in 2011 to $95 in 2014. Over the past 3 years there has only been a $20 increase.
“What is the status of the new facility? “
Thanks to our fundraising efforts last year ground was broke in August and work started on the new 90’, and 60’/70’ diamonds closest to the road. Our Town Supervisor Sheila Megan contacted the Local 17 to see if they could help out WSYBA. They offered to volunteer their time and machinery using it also as a training tool for their new engineers. In return WSYBA would need to provide lunch for the engineers and fuel for the machinery. I reached out to many different fuel companies to solicit donations. After many attempts I was finally able to secure 1,000 gallons of fuel from Noco Fuels. WS Town engineers have assured me that this will be sufficient for the completion of these two diamonds. Money raised through last years fundraiser was used to provide the engineers lunches and drainage system for the new fields. Work will resume once weather permits. This project will take some time but I feel with the patience and dedication each WSYBA family shows we will all be very pleased with the results! We are in need of Corporate sponsors. Contact 864-6972.
I am happy to say that with the help of our new board member Don Borkowski we will be upgrading our Associations website. It has the same web address www.wsybaseball.org but will look different and have many new features. Some of the features will include: Calendar of Events, Coaches Login to submit scores and highlights, Newsletter tab to keep everyone updated on the status of the WSYBA, Sponsor Links, and much more!
