The York Baseball Association says Thank You Jays Care, Roberto Alomar and all the volunteers for making our Field of Dreams project a reality. Our Official Grand opening Clinic and Ceremonies were well received by all participants. Thank You to Peter Zakkak and Kevin Bowser who worked together to submit the grant application and follow up these past couple of seasons. Moving forward York Baseball's improved facility will attract more youth to the sport, teaching teamwork, sportsmanship, and life skills for generations to come.
Yesterday's Opening Ceremony was attended by Hall of Famer; Roberto Alomar, Board of Directors Jays Care Foundation; John MacIntyre, Sportsnet's Jamie Campbell, Former Parks General Manager Kevin Bowser, MPP Laura Albanese, Councilor Frances Nunziata, as well as a number of current City of Toronto PF&R supervisors.
The Clinic was a big hit with Roberto Alomar directing and running the training events. Afterwards Roberto sat for autographs and pictures with the kids, which truly was a big hit. I think we'll see a number of gloves and pieces of equipment with his autograph in the park for quite a while.
This weekend York Midget team hosted the Midget AA playoffs at Keelesdale.
After loosing the first game on Friday 3-2 to Scarborough with a great pitching performance by both pitchers we scraped away with alot of heart and determination through out the weekend and never quit.
One game at time we won the next 4 games straight and had to beat East York twice today to be champs.
We beat east york 8-7 and second game 4-1 to be Midget AA Champions in the TBA.
With two outstanding pitching performances today Brandan Russell through a 7 inning gem, throwing 69 pitches to take the win, and with championship on the line for second game pitcher Sean Davidson through 6 innings allowing 1 run and throwing 99 pitches, to recieve the win Completing our regular season schedule.
In two weeks time your York Midget team will be teavelling to Brantford for the 2013 OBA's.
