Rit Carter

#314 - 3B (profile)

Though he was one of the founding members of the old Market Street Maulers that first formed in the late-1980s, Rit only began playing with Team inDRStructible in 2005.

Back in the early days of the Maulers, the club was co-captained by Rit and Mick Bolduc, a former DRS employee and roommate of Dave Cushman, who now works for DPH and stars on its E Coli Happens team. The dastardly duo collaborated on writing the Mauler’s weekly game recaps, and considering Rit was a one-time stand-up comedian and writer for the Hartford Advocate, and that Mick was an aspiring sportswriter, you can only imagine how creative and funny the write-ups were.

Rit stopped playing for the Maulers in the mid-1990s after he got married, had children, and shifted his attention to playing hockey when he had free time. Fast-forward ten years, and Rit was working in the same unit as DRS captain Jim Chakulski. The two started talking one day, and soon enough, Rit was convinced to come out of retirement.

In the field, Rit prefers the infield and has spent most of his time at the hot corner. And in case you’re wondering, Rit’s uniform number, #314, came to be selected because it was the closest thing he could get to the Greek symbol for Pi.

Rit’s first game with Team inDRStructible coincidentally came against the Hartford Advocate, his one-time employer. In the contest, Rit went 3 for 4, with 3 runs scored, 3 RBIs, and a line-drive homerun seared past a diving left fielder. Overall, in three seasons, Rit has played 12 games, batted .500 (18-36), scored 17 runs, driven in 12 runs, with 4 doubles, a triple, and a homerun.
