Darren LaForge

#9 - 1B (profile)

One of the most dedicated players on the club, Darren is one of the team's charter members, and in Cal Ripken-like fashion, played 204 consecutive games over 8 seasons without missing a single contest. From there, he took 2004 and the majority of 2005 off before rejoining the club again in '06.

Darren, or “the Cat,” as he has come to be called by his teammates, has been the taxmen's steady firstbaseman for a decade.

Other than consistency in showing up for games and solid play around the first base bag, Darren is known for his less than lightning-fast foot speed on the basepaths. He routinely leads the team in triples, a stat Darren attributes to the fact that the taxmen usually play on open fields and he simply doesn't have the giddy-up to leg out his gap shots for homeruns.

Derwood has the dubious distinction as being the team's sac fly king, with more than twice the number of any other player on the roster. Career totals reveal 232 games played, a .545 batting average, 415 base hits, 316 RBIs, 64 doubles, 42 triples, and 32 homeruns. Personal milestones include his being selected as team MVP in the club's inaugural season in 1996, and a monster week in 2003 that saw him hit for the cycle in back-to-back games against CPTV and the Greater Hartford Easter Seals Rehab Center over a three-day span.

A little known bit of trivia about Darren: it was he who came up with the team name “inDRStructible” while flipping through the pages of a dictionary (most likely during work hours.)
