Jerry Zayas
#34 - SS, 3B (profile)
Jerry is one of the team's charter members, and was instrumental in recruiting others to sign up when the team was first getting organized. Jerry is the most supportive teammate and cheerleader on the DRS bench, as well as one of the most notorious trash-talkers in the league.
Jerry was the team's original thirdbaseman, playing there two seasons before shifting over to become the club's starting shortstop when Chaun Jones left DRS. It's unusual Jerry's been able to play either position, seeing he's left-handed, but on first seeing him try to catch fly balls in the outfield, the DRS captain knew Jerry had sealed his fate and was destined to be an infielder. During the 2002 Cove Cup, Jerry made history by turning a triple play while playing short against the Bisons.
Jerry is called "Big Papi" by his teammates due his many similarities with Red Sox slugger David Ortiz. Besides both being lefties, the two share the same uniform number (#34), a Latin heritage, and an ability to consume mass quantities of Buffalo wings.
At the plate, Jerry's a vicious hitter who's led the team in homeruns twice, has a lifetime average of .577, and was voted team MVP in 1998. In a 1998 win over the Law Office of John Haymond, Jerry swatted two homeruns and drove in a then team-record nine runs.
