Jon Reid
#99 - SS, 3B, 2B (profile)
Jon first played DRS softball on Dave Burke’s old agency teams in the late-1980s and early-1990s. But when that team disbanded after a handful of seasons, Jon stopped playing.
Then, after a decade away from the game, Jon suited up to play once again for DRS, showing for one of Team inDRStructible’s games during the 2004 season. A half-dozen games followed in 2005, before 10 games in both 2006 and 2007 as Jon made the transition from a part-time ‘ringer’ to a reliable part-time player.
A left-handed batter who plays throughout the infield – shortstop, third base, and second base – Jon is a solid hitter, speedy on the basepaths, and slick with the glove. His play at short, along with his love of the Red Sox and wearing of a retro 1970’s Sox batting helmet, has gotten Jon nicknamed “the Rooster” by his teammates, a reference to former Red Sox shortstop Rick Burleson.
As much as he contributes on the diamond, Jon’s been nearly as valuable to the team with what he’s done off the field. Several years back, he was a big help in launching the club’s short-lived website that ran off the agency’s intranet site. More recently, he’s been bringing his eight year-old son Harris to games, and as a result, the taxmen have been blessed with an extra player, and another ringer in the making. Lastly, it was Jon that was the driving force behind the creation of this very website, and the team’s procurement of the inDRStructible.com domain name.
Over four seasons and 27 games, Jon’s batted .605, with 47 runs scored, 42 RBIs, 8 doubles, 7 triples, and 5 homeruns. In a Friday morning game prior to the team’s annual bustrip to Fenway Park this past summer, Jon stroked the game-winning single with two outs in the bottom of the last inning to propel the taxmen to an exciting 5-4 walk-off win over the GHISL All-Stars at New State Road Park in Manchester. Then in the 2006 season finale, Jon had one of the best games ever by a taxman, going 5 for 5, with 5 runs scored, 6 RBIs, and hitting for the cycle in a DRS win over the O’Brians Pub Tax Evaders at the Colchester Recreation Park in Colchester.
