Felicia Pitt
#23 - P, RF (profile)
Felicia is an original member of the team who did not find her special niche with the team until the end of her first season.
In the club’s inaugural campaign, team captain Jim Chakulski was still learning what his players could do, as most of the taxmen had never played softball. The first team practice was used simply to split people up into two groups: infielders and outfielders. In the team’s first-ever game, Felicia was unknowingly put out of position and tabbed as the team’s right fielder. It would not be until the second-to-last game of the year that she found her true calling when she was slated to be the taxmen’s starting pitcher.
Coming back the following season, Felicia was the team’s ace, and chucked her way to an 11-2 record, the eleven wins still ranking as an all-time team record. For her efforts, she was her teammates’ unanimous pick for the team Cy Young Award.
Unfortunately, a few games into the 1998 season, Felicia was struck by line drive hit back to through the pitcher’s box, and was gun-shy about taking the mound ever again. Bruised but not badly hurt, she was too scared to pitch and resumed her spot in right field for the rest of the year.
Over three seasons, Felicia played 40 games, totaling 37 base hits, 32 runs scored, 15 RBIs, and a pair of doubles. Felicia swung a mean bat, and more than once surprised the opposition by poking the ball high and far over the outfielders’ heads.
Felicia would not play with DRS again, as she was pregnant with son Kenny in 1999, and from then on was simply too busy to arrange time to play any games. She’s brought Kenny out to see the team a couple times, and still likes to know the latest news about the team, but her playing days with DRS are over. Her service as the top pitcher in the team’s breakout 1997 season (in which DRS won 20 games to only 6 losses) is greatly appreciated.
