Lynne Robinson
#45 - C, 2B (profile)
Lynne was a charter member of Team inDRStructible, playing in the team’s first-ever game on April 24, 1996 against the Bisons at Shea Park in East Hartford.
During 1996 and 1997, Lynne took part in 24 of the 34 games played by DRS. Lynne, along with Marjorie (McCoy) Terry, made up the reliable tandem that handled catching duties for the taxmen during the team’s early years. But Lynne was not limited to time behind the plate – in 4 games when DRS was in need of a secondbaseman, Lynne stepped forward to fill the open vacancy.
During one memorable game, a stray mongrel ran out of the woods and began chasing Lynne’s daughter Rymia, who was terrified. The unleashed pooch meant no harm, but Lynne was not taking any chances. Grabbing her mitt, and astonishing her teammates, she chased him off, viciously swinging away at his hindquarters all the while. The dog was uninjured, but the taxmen were left wondering how many homeruns Lynne may have hit in her DRS career if she ever had swung a bat at the softball as fiercely as she had swung her glove at the little mutt.
Lynne’s career highlights included a great three-game stretch during the 1997 season that saw her go 2 for 3 with a run scored in one game, stroke three base hits and drive in two runs seven days later, and lastly, knock in a career-best 3 runs the following week.
Lynne returned to help fill in with the team for a few games during the 1998 and 1999 seasons, but has since called an end to her DRS playing career. She still works in the agency and maintains a current subscription to the DRS captain’s weekly newsletter to better keep up with the team’s progress.
