Lisa Polzella
#14 - C, 2B, P, OF (profile)
Lisa was one of the team’s original players, joining a huge contingent of Accounts Receivable employees that formed the nucleus of the early inDRStructible teams. (Co-workers in A/R who also would play with the taxmen included Scott Deslaurier, Darren LaForge, Bill Luddy, Frank Milardo, Chaun Jones, Felicia Pitt, Lynne Robinson, and Jason Purslow.)
Lisa proved a valuable and versatile addition to the team, as she was the only female who had ever previously played softball. (At one time, Lisa had played with the old DRS team that was captained by Dave Burke and had last fielded a squad in the late-1980s.) In the field, she would spend time pretty much everywhere - behind the plate, on the pitcher’s mound, at second base, and in three of the four outfield spots.
In her first two seasons, which coincided with the team’s first two seasons, Lisa was DRS’ top female hitter. In 20 games, she batted .364 (24-66) while scoring 20 runs with 12 runs batted in. Her best game came against DSSaster at CCSU in New Britain, in which she batted leadoff, went 4 for 4, and scored 4 runs.
But unfortunately for the taxmen, Lisa’s first two seasons would be her only two seasons. After announcing her ‘retirement’ on the bench just prior to the taxmen’s final game of 1997, Lisa capped off her brief career by lining an RBI-single off the ankle of the Fighting Plankton’s pitcher in a game DRS won by a score of 18-5.
Any plans Lisa may have had in making like Roger Clemens and coming out of retirement for a lucrative contract deal were soon scrapped when Lisa got married and later gave birth to a daughter. Though she says her playing days are over, Lisa still tries to come out to a game from time to time to root on her old team.
