Dave Nelson

#00 - OF (profile)

Dave was a part-time player in the years of the team’s infancy. At the time, he didn’t even hold a driver’s license, so he was limited to playing only those games at the DMV fields, which were located in his hometown of Wethersfield and within walking distance.

When Dave did come out to play, he was of huge help because he could handle himself in the outfield, a position at which the taxmen were sorely short staffed.

In his first career game, Dave helped lead the offense by going 4 for 4 and scoring four runs in a DRS victory. Further, when Scott Deslaurier broke his collarbone in a diving attempt to catch a fly ball during the middle innings, Dave shifted to left-centerfield to help anchor the defense over the final frames.

Dave made a handful of appearances during the 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999 seasons, but has not played since. Though he now considers himself retired from competition, he continues to follow the club’s successes and failures through the DRS captain’s game wrap-ups.
