Brad Quirk
#1 - P, 1B (profile)
The brother-in-law of DRS captain Jim Chakulski, Brad joined the taxmen during the 2001 season and has played a total of 14 games. In the field, he's spent equal time at first base and on the pitching mound.
The first impression Brad made on his teammates was a good one. In a game against CPTV in which DRS was shorthanded, none of the taxmen’s starting pitchers were available. Bill Luddy and George Duggan both tried their hand on the hill, but neither were able to record even one measly out. So Brad came on in relief (with no outs in the 1st inning), went the distance pitching all seven innings, was 3 for 3 at the plate, and helped spark DRS to a come-from-behind victory.
Unfortunately, Brad’s biggest hit came not as a member of DRS, but as an opponent. For many years Brad worked at the Greater Hartford Easter Seals Rehab Center, and at one point, organized an Easter Seals team that ended up facing DRS in the charity’s annual softball weekend. In that game, Brad walloped a timely three-run homerun (over brother-in-law Jim’s head in left-centerfield) to key a big rally that helped his Rehab Center team claw back from a big deficit. (The game ended up a nail-biter, with DRS pulling out a one-run win in nine innings.)
