Katie joined the team for the 2000 season after the DRS captain transferred to Audit in late-1999 and recruited her to play. Katie had never played softball previously, but as an avid runner and participant in a golf league, she was athletic enough and picked up the game pretty easily. (Besides, she was a devoted Red Sox fan, and that in itself was good enough to be added to the roster.)

Katie played in only 7 games during 2000, splitting her time between second base and catcher.

Any plans for a celebrated softball career were curtailed the following spring, when Katie and hubby Karl announced the couple was expecting the arrival of their first child. Five years and three baby boys later, the taxmen have stopped holding their breath awaiting Katie’s return to the ball field.
