Melissa came to play with the taxmen for a short time during the 2002 season following the DRS participation in the Easter Seals Softball Weekend.

Melissa was on one of the opposing teams that beat DRS pretty handily in the tourney, and though she was part of a winning team, she wasn’t happy. As the daughter of one of the players on the victorious company team, Melissa was only added to the roster as an emergency back-up and since no one got hurt, she saw no playing time.

It was during the taxmen’s post-tourney barbecue that Melissa introduced herself. She lived locally in Wethersfield and had returned to the park to watch some of the games. Since she wasn’t happy at not getting to play, and since DRS always seemed to have a shortage of female players on its roster, it didn’t take long before she was invited to join the team.

Over the next month and half, Melissa played 8 games with DRS. Overall, she would score 8 runs, total 7 base hits, and play all four outfield positions. In a rare Friday night game, against the Administrative Nightmares at Colt Park, she scored 4 runs in just 4 plate appearances.

After the season, Melissa was never heard from again. An attempt was made to contact her prior to the 2003 season, but by that time, her email address had changed and that was that.
