Paul Janco
#27 - P, 3B, OF (profile)
The brother-in-law of DRS captain Jim Chakulski, Paul joined the taxmen full-time for the 2000 season following his move back to Connecticut from New Hampshire with Jim’s sister Amy. It would not be until the following year in 2001 that Amy would play with DRS.
A fellow New Hartford native and high school classmate of both Jim Chakulski and Steve Fador, Paul played baseball at Northwestern Regional #7 High School as well as in a competitive men’s modified softball league in Keene, NH. His playing experience allowed him to fill in all over the field for the taxmen – in the outfield, in the infield, and on the pitching mound.
After playing full-time in 2000, Paul returned on a part-time basis to play a dozen games in 2001, and then only a couple more in 2002. In limited appearances on the mound, Paul notched a perfect 6-0 record with 2 saves. In one memorable 2001 outing against the Arch Sports Bar, Paul made the start and watched the taxmen jump out to a lead. He then shifted to third for a couple innings, before returning to the hill to finish the game. It was a rare case of a pitcher getting both a victory and a save in the same game.
Over his three seasons with the club, Paul played 29 games, batting .516 with 40 runs scored and 43 runs batted in, and had 13 doubles, 6 triples, and 10 homeruns. Especially impressive were his first six games with DRS as he batted a collective 12-14 (.857) with 10 runs scored, 17 ribbies, 3 triples and 5 homeruns.
Neither Paul nor Amy have played with DRS since 2002 what with busy work schedules and two little ones now in the household – son Jake (3 years old) and daughter Mackenzie (born January 12, 2006.)
