Kim Columbia
#27 - 2B, C (profile)
Kim’s only season with the taxmen came during the widely over-hyped “Y2K” campaign. Working in the Refunds Unit, Kim had endured years of intense peer pressure from co-workers Jerry Zayas, Jim Chakulski, Marjorie (McCoy) Terry, Stephanie Sheff, and even Beth (Geiger) Souza, before finally agreeing to come out to join the team for the 2000 season.
Generally, most of the players on the DRS roster fall into one of two groups. Either they’ve never played softball before in their life, or, they haven’t played any type of organized softball in years. Kim fell into the latter category, claiming to have last played the game back when she was still in high school.
But belying her claims to be a bit rusty, Kim made short work of getting herself into game shape, going 2 for 3 and driving in 2 runs in an opening day loss to the Department of Corrections. A week later, she followed up her impressive debut by stroking a base hit and scoring a run.
Kim, along with Lydia Sidur, would be important additions to the club in 2000. Former starter Jackie Bayot had left the squad after the 1999 season, leaving a void at second base. Kim and Lydia teamed to form a tandem that not only fielded the position, but prevented the taxmen from having to forfeit games due to a lack of female players.
Kim would finish her lone season with the team having played 13 games, collecting 7 hits, 6 runs scored, and 4 RBIs.
