Coach Christian Runza was an Old Tappan High School graduate in 2014, who was a three year varsity letter recipient in both baseball and football. Christian was the captain of both the football and baseball teams at Old Tappan after starting at catcher for three years on the baseball team and starting at quarterback/linebacker for two years on the football team.

Coach Runza was an all-league and honorable mention all-county catcher and an all-league quarterback at Old Tappan. His best recorded pop time was a 1.87 and was a solid hitter at the plate. Runza helped lead the Golden Knights to three Big North Division championships, as well as three appearances in the Bergen County Tournament Semi-Finals.

Christian was given the opportunity to play division 1 football or baseball, but ultimately decided to play football at Monmouth University, where he came in as a quarterback and finished as a linebacker. Christian played 34 career games at Monmouth, mostly on special teams as a sophomore, then rotated in on defense and was on every special team by his senior year. For his hard work and dedication to the Monmouth Football program, he was awarded with the Raymond Micelli Coaches Award after his senior season. Coach Runza graduated from Monmouth with a degree in Finance and is currently working at Elevation Securities, where he is in training to become a broker/sales trader for hedge funds. Coach Christian has been through the recruiting process for baseball and football, so he is very
experienced with how the process works, and the best ways to get Surge players to the next level. His knowledge of the different tactics recruiters use makes him a great help for Surge players to get to the next level.
