Coach Martinez grew up in Grand Junction and wrestled with the Little Warriors and participated in other youth sports. He went on to wrestle at Grand Mesa Middle School, for Coach Trujillo, for both his 7th and 8th grade years. He went on to wrestle and play baseball at Central High School but by his Sophomore year came to love the sport of wrestling and made that his only sport. He wrestled for two years at Central and missed his Senior season due to injury.

While living in Scottsdale, AZ in 2015 he became a certified coach through USA Wrestling and an assistant coach with the Ba'ag Wrestling Club out of Salt River High School. Coach Martinez found his way back to Grand Junction and became a coach for the Little Warriors in 2016 and has since become an assistant coach with the Central Warriors while continuing to coach with the Little Warriors.
