2017 New Player Packet

Welcome to the AXE Fastpitch Softball Club. Welcome to a new level of girls’ softball…a higher level of competitiveness. Our team is a partnership between players, coaches and parents. We all need each other to make this opportunity work. Communication, positive attitude, trust, team relationship and hard work are the commitments we must make to each other and ourselves to achieve ultimate success and be the best that we can be. It must also be a common goal for us to all have fun while becoming top level performers.

Please do not be afraid to ask questions or voice your concerns. Our coaches are here to help you and we can only do that if we know what concerns you may have. We also encourage you to ask questions as well. You may not always get the answer you want, however we must have an open line of communication.

Parents, be supportive of your daughter. She will have good games and most likely she will have some rough games. No matter what the situation, make sure she knows you are behind her and proud of her. I promise you, we are! Always keep in mind, these girls and their development into top level softball players is our main concern.

Everyone must understand that we are a competitive traveling team. We will do our best to get everyone some playing time, however, there will be times that we, as coaches, must field what we believe to be our best nine. We want to win and I’ll promise you our competition will be doing the same. Also remember that every position on the field is important. Not every player is suited to pitch, play outfield, play infield or catch. Our job, as coaches, is to determine what position best suits your daughter for the team. During “pool” games we will have the opportunity to move girls around for learning purposes, however when tournament games begin we must have solid playing positions for each girl… their primary position. Our coaches meet and welcome your support regarding this issue.

Practice is a must for a good competitive team and it will be required for all players. We do understand that certain unavoidable conflicts may occur and we will deal with those as necessary as long as advance notice is given. Please remember that while we want the girls to have fun and enjoy the game of softball, practice is hard work! She must be prepared physically and mentally for each game. We expect all the girls to put forth 110% at all times. We have taken the time to carefully select the players that we believe to have the best potential to play and a passion for the sport therefore everyone understands the importance of good, thorough practice.

AXE Xpectations:
Attitude: As a member of the AXE Fastpitch Softball Club you will be expected to maintain a positive attitude towards your coaches, parents, teammates, umpires and opponents at all times. A “bad attitude” rubs off on the rest of the team and will not be tolerated. A player exhibiting a bad attitude will get time on the bench and/or removal from the team. Some of the most visible signs of having a “bad attitude” include back talking and/or cursing, excuse making, not hustling and consistently missing practice.

Practice: This is a team sport and requires team effort. You will hurt your team if you do not attend practice. Coaches will expect you at practice and on time. We have a limited amount of time and must start on time every practice. Missing too many practices may lead to removal from the team.

Image Projection: We want to project a positive image to all those involved in a game with us. It is easy to be loud, sassy and unsportsman like. It is easy to be a poor loser and a bad winner. It is well worth it to be nice and polite and completely outclass the opponent and follow that by being a gracious winner. You want to be remembered. Do it by being polite and dominating. Do not confuse this with team enthusiasm. Keep the cheers and chatter up. Just keep negative comments out of games and leave the umpires to the coaches.

Parental Instructions: Parents, please refrain from coaching the girls from the stands. We encourage chatter, cheers and team enthusiasm, but leave the coaching to the coaches. We need the girls to hear the coaches and follow our instructions. We know the game strategy.

In closing, we are excited that you have chosen to play with the AXE Fastpitch Softball Club. We look forward to all the hard work and rewarding experiences we will share together as we build a positive, classy, fun, competitive and dominating organization.
