Gentalmen I just wanted to post that i am on the final discussions in refference to a track here in miami. These kind of things do take some time because of the checklist of things to consider. I will post more info within the next few weeks and will probably have final by early Dec.
I just wanted to say that i have NOT forgotten and will provide complete report of what i've done when I finish.

Thanks

That will be nice, this way I can stop thinking about selling my stuff... All previous deals made will hold though.

By the way, someone told me about a private track on 40th Street, does anyone know about it???, All I know is that is in a backyard of a big home (With driver stand and all).

I know i havent posted in a while. Theres a-lot on my plate. between holidays and other matters the r/c stuff was delayed. In any case I still have not forgotten and my 710 stares at me every day. In general just to let everyone know I am the only one that is helping (myself and everyone) to try and establish another track. I am also learning (the hard way) that dealing with gov. agencies take a very ...very long time. At least here in Miami.
To tell you the truth the issue is with 1/8 scale onroad gas rc because of the amount of space required. This however does not apply to other forms of on-road RC. 1/10 scale nitro for example which would be a-lot easier to build a track for and to be honest.. most people are racing 1/10 class anyway. There are other possibilities as well including 1/18 scale. I own the computer and transponder system so whatever could be done as far as location we could set up within a short period. I will keep trying however to get local gov to let us use facilities they already have (and are not using!)
Maybe in mean time we can get something going to at least run 1/10scale or 1/18th scale.
just food for thought guys and your feedback is welcome. maybe theres not much demand for that..
im not sure.

please comment..

what i think you should do, before this even goes any further, is determine the demand for a new track. what i would do is set up a meeting for atleast one month from now. say the first wednesday of March. this will give a good amount of time for everyone to hear about it and noone will use the excuse... well, i didnt know about it. at that point, you will see how many people are interested and then you should all work as a group in assembling the project of starting a new track. online is a good way to chat, but you will never get any help/support by just chatting. you really need to get the people together, form a committee and go from there. having said all this, i will not be able to participate, but i would like to see you guys get going again, i am just too busy now to do any of this stuff. my .02 cents.

Guys I think Alex has a track at his location for racing at least the 1/18th electrics.. maybe we could set up somthing very quickly to at least race every so often. Im ok with that until we figure out what will happen with gas 1/10 or 1/8 track. As far as tropical is c oncerned i seriously doubt it unless we get together as a group. I personally spoke with commitioner in respect to setting up a track at tropical and they declined because they claim the park has "other plans for that space".
I also know that that particular commitioner has town meetings every so often so that the public can address their concerns to him directly but will a group of us racers be willing to show up?
i dont know? Im pretty sure that if we (as a group) express our concerns then we have a much better chance i think. In any case i agree with joe we should meet and discuse what we could do as a group. Maybe the 1/18 scale racing could serve that purpose too.

Andy

Alex when would you like to set up the first group race? Im in for one..
p.s. for those interested his location is in kendall.

That's the thing, there are no shops in Miami that will support a track like F&F. Tracks don't make enough money to really survive as a standalone "business". It's not even about making money, just breaking even. The land is fricking expensive, and have you (not "you, just in general)even seen how much it is to put asphault down 200x100? It's fricking crazy. Piggyback it onto a shop where the and it's a perfect combination. The shop doesn't have to worry about the surface because the building management takes care of it. All they need to do is negotiate the land use. Back in the 90's when I was first into it, it was Andy's Hobbies running the track and it was successful. But once they left, the track lasted for a few more years and then that's it. So unless a shop decides to run something, or some of the local vendors (Serpent, Maxy's etc) want to get together to run something, or someone just has money to burn, I think this is a cycle that Miami racers will have to deal with.

well eric, thats the first good responce i have heard so far, and your right, we do need guys like serpent and maxy to jump on board but i dont know how much of an impact they can have with these crazy realestate prices, i still dont know how andy pulled off that track in the redlands and as long as andy seems to be the only hope for a track, the future does not look bright for rc onroad in miami and i wonder why maxy and serpent, two companies that stand to make a lot of money like they did at royalpalm, play a bigger role in helping out andy, if they did that it would make a bigger differance than having andy running around the city all by himself knocking on doors and being turned away like some kid trying to sell girl scout cookies

hi guys im new to rc racing. i got a 1/10 car for christmas and wanted to start racing but dont have alot of tracks nearby and also would like to see aloot more choices. I was reading through the threads and someone said get some cones and lets race well that ides sounds good to me instead of wasting your time trying to find a parking lot to make a track lets just have a parking lot race with cone, plates, and etc. i reakky want to start racing but cant caus of the lacks of tracks. so lets have that as an idea.

oh and one more thing is there an onroad track in mills pond?

Sorry to say, but cones and plates just don't cut it. People don't spend the money they do in this hobby to race on a course made of cones and plates in the middle of a dirty parking lot. That might have been the case back in the day, 30 years ago when there were no real tracks, but that doesn't fly today qith the quality and precision of today's equipment. We're talking about expensive cars, tires, radio equipment. I guarantee the guys that get into this to race are putting over $1000 in gear over all (not at once, dont' get scared.) Crap that won't survive on a beater track. Plus there's the timing systems that are worth several THOUSAND dollars alone. Do you expect someone to sit and count laps by hand like they used to? No way. It's like going back to paper and pencil. I know what you're saying because you just wanna race, but once you get out to a real track and see what this is really about, that cones and plates thought will never cross your mind again. We tried the indoor 1/18th electric and it was cool for like 3 weeks, but then little by little less people showed up and it was just like 5-8 guys for 2 more weeks. And frankly, it was boring like that. It's the same thing that happened with the big track. He tried to create a race series to create competition. You need numbers to keep the tracks open. But by the end of the second year people weren't coming. The "experts" felt the track wasn't good enough for them so they didn't come. And the beginners were too afraid to race. He had 400 track members, and about 20-30 consistent attendees on the weekends, and not even that many steady racers. Now, no one has a track in Miami and I'm not going to complain to Andy about stopping it. This is a "niche" hobby. If no one wants to race, why is he going to hold events? For 8 guys? Even I can understand that it's not worth it. While that wasn't the main reason why the track closed, I'm sure that it was some writing on the wall of things to come. So anyone that wants to race, just go to Fast & Furious RC or you won't get any racing done for a long time. It's cheap to race, it takes about 30 minutes to get there on Sunday morning and you can race all day with good competition, for beginners AND experts. (Nice rant huh?) :P

Andy,

Hello, I have been following this thread for sometime and so allow me to introduce myself. My name is Darren and I am the founder of MicroMotorSport Hobbies / NitroMotorSport Racing located here in Miami. We recently launched our hobby shop on 12748 SW 42nd (Bird Rd) and are very interested in helping the local hobbiest attain what they have been craving for in regards to an onroad track. Maxy from Maxy's fuel was over at our shop last week and we sat down and talk for easily an hour on a location that we are currently pursuing for a semipermanant/permanant on-road track. He absolutley loved the location and expressed great intrest in doing whatever it takes to make it a success provided we can get it. The location is ideal, the presentation is where I would love to have input and help from yourself and some of the other locals that have been involved in your goal for a track in Miami. I must say you have been very diligent in your quest and my partner and I would love the opportunity to sit and chat with you about what we can do to make this happen as well...I may be reached at:

i dont want to sound negative, but i,m gonna sound negative! cj is right, if we were gonna get that track we would of heard a yes or no by now, and the way things are going, it might be time to see what the guys at micromotorsports are going to do. i have all the respect in the world for andy but he,s going up against a beurocracy of parks people who have nothing to do but say no because none of them want to greenlight a project they know anything about or it,s liabilities, i bet if andy was asking for a spot to have another latin festival or hip-hop concert he would of been told yes two years ago, l went to calle-ocho last year and i saw about fifty fist fights, but there giving us hell over a fricken rc car park go-figure! and i also went to south beach over the memorial weekend almost 300 peaple were arrested, and yet these venues go on year after year! oh by the way i think andy should call channel 7 to get help me howard! i think he has a strong case!

Yes its almost been a year. Im going to agree with cj as well in that the parks dept could do much more for us. My disclaimer is that not all the people that i have spoken to in the parks dept are holding us back. Ok heres the bomb! there is a hockey ring far west in tamiammi park that the park barley uses but they want to destroy and build a basketball court. yeah! another basket ball court.. every park seems to have one. they dont even want to let us use it in meantime. thats the truth no spin no nothing. its in their master plan as they claim. i think the only thing you all could do is contact the parks director or the mayor and express your concerns as citizens. We dont want to be alocated a dump site that does not even have bathrooms or be too far away from city either. this is a need for everyone and what i would like to see is a place that everyone can use in a family oriented atmosphere. There is are nice parks everywhere but no asphault. If we had an alphault company donate then we should have better results. Asphault for a track is around 15,000.00 There are also other things happening as well but nothing in stone just yet. if your on this website e-mail list i will e-mail everyone.

I know you're young and don't have the same budget like the older guys, so I know you can't go all the time like some others. But you're demanding a lot of Andy considering you hardly were at the old track. So ease up on Andy, he's not gonna say anything until he has full details to give out so no one has any questions. As of now, there's just a location.

I wouldn't get any F1 as your'e not going to have anywhere to race it. Get yourself a Mugen or a Serpent and go race that thing. I understand what you mean, I wasn't trying to be a pain either. Hope to see you out there. Wherever "there" is. :D

Well, I could race it at the new RPR, not an actuall race, just practice. Its gonna have a Novak 4.5R brushless in it, so it willl be plenty fast. I was thinking of getting somthing like a Serpent, but that was before i heard the news of a new RPR. now that the new RPR is back ill have a hard time deciding whether to save up more money and get the New 720, a used 710, or the F1. Are any of you guys planning on selling your 710 and getting the 720?

Andy,
Keep us informed. It would be great if we got another track. I haven't been around much because of my son but i'm hoping that once he starts walking (and stops being attached to his mom) i can take him to the track and watch the races. and hopefully i can get out to. The 710 i bought from you has only been in one race.

Ok gentlemen sorry for the delay.. I had a solar water heater that needed attending. Yes I’m into alternate clean energy as well. That’s another story. Eric I think also has solar.

Ok the new track is a collaboration of various people. Strategic alliances (I love the sound of that). This is perfect since I personally don’t have to bear the complete work load of running a track. (Its not easy) I also envisioned a track that was in essence “the peoples track” where there is more cooperation between drivers and the track facility. This fits the bill since it doesn’t belong to any one person and it’s a non-profit club for everyone involved. Art Carbonel will design the track and that says a WHOLE LOT! Art as you may know is a pioneer in this hobby of ours and is respected through out the world for his contributions. Needless to say he will design a fantastic layout. We want everyone involved it will be YOUR track, Everyones Track! It is just starting out now with a few key people including myself to help establish it. The parks dept were not as accommodating as we would like unless you want to race at a dump site so that issue is dead. The new location will be at Homestead Motor Speedway. Yes it’s a little down the road however the facility is huge and we have a lot of resources at our disposal there. They have been very accommodating and welcome us there. I think we can have a world class facility at that location since its built for racing anyway. We are going to start the track build very soon and if you would like to help just let me know and we can all work together to get this happening for everyone. We need everyone’s cooperation.

I will post more info as time passes but that’s where were at.
If you want to help just let me know…
Andy
