| “THE” Vipers did it again but had to wait for the sun to come out and warm up their blood. In the opening game against the Eclipse, with what they call in Texas a Blue Northern blowing, “THE” Vipers dropped only their second game of the season. Playing the late game on Friday in that COLD weather they made 7 errors which the Eclipse took advantage of to win by a score of 7-2. Coming back on Saturday, in the late game again, but with a temperature snakes like, “THE” Vipers beat Think Pink 18-3. Alex “Speedy” Ramirez got a home run off a dropped third strike and Kiersten “Lobster” Humphries had 10 strike-outs in 4 innings in her first start of the season. With scoring more than 16 runs and giving up less than 4 runs “THE” Vipers were able to pick up the last seed available and move on to Sunday. The sun was out in full strength on a beautiful day and “THE” Vipers took the field against the #1 seed, the Eclipse. This was the rubber match of the season with both teams having 2 wins and 2 loses against each other. “THE” Vipers struck early and never looked back winning 8-3. Lauren “the gopher whisperer” Alderete along with Kiersten and Shelby “camp town” Dutra all batted 1.000 in this semi-championship game. This set up the championship with No Mercy, who had squeaked by the Poison Ivy 5-2. The first 4 innings were tight with No Mercy up 2-1 when both teams put in their second pitchers, unfortunately for No Mercy “THE” Vipers second pitcher was their real starting pitcher. While the snakes took no mercy, on No Mercy, and scored 7 runs quickly, Hailey “smiley” Johnson only allowed 1 unearned run. Stephanie “honey bee” Meracle along with Dannielle “dangle” Vogel and several other girls slapped great singles up the middle to jump ahead 8-2. The game ended when Katie “gotta-love-the-baby” Hunter scooped up a ground ball at first for the last out of the game.
This commentator has always said nothing but positive things about both teams in his last two years of reporting but in this case the No Mercy’s real named should be changed to No Sportsmanship. After losing the game they made “THE” Vipers wait for the hand shake for at least two minutes then only went through half of the line refusing to shake some of the girls as well as the coaches.
