| Not sure if Budweiser is a disgruntled umpire letting us know that we pay the least amount for umps but I look at it this way. Most league games are about 2 hours. That's $27.50/hour and I doubt many of you report that income to Uncle Sam. $27.50/hour is the equivalent to $57,200/year.

| $55 isn't a lot for an umpire.
1) Some of these guys have to travel across the metro in order to get to the game.
2) 75% of their pay is towards babysitting the two teams.
3) They have to put up with overweight, out of shape players bitching about every call, ball and strike.
I'm sure you guys couldn't do half the job they can. And one more thing... for all the old, fat ass players that shouldn't even be playing the game, stop acting like you are the MVP of the League when an umpire strikes you out looking.
You are not that good! Your swing looks as bad as the crack whore of a g/f you brought to the game. Wait, maybe that's your third wife.

Nobody is putting a gun to your head. If you think $55 isn't enough then don't ump any games in our leagues. Nobody is putting a frickin' gun to your head. Go ump some Legion or VFW games where you have to put up with over zealous parents in addition to bitching players and coaches.
We may get pissed when we get rung up on a pitch that the catcher digs out the dirt, but at least we're PLAYING the game. You umpires are umpires because you sucked ass at the game and got cut from your high school team, so you decided to go the umpire route instead. Take a poll of all the umps in your "association" and let me know how many of you played the game above high school or even grade school...

| Oh damn, sounds like umpires cant bitch about getting paid. Half the umpires dont know how to make a close call at first, that is why they are umping amatuer games and not college or even high school for that matter. Umps quit bitching and do your damn job that you are sooooo over paid for.

If the umpires don't like it then don't ump in this league. Go ump in the the Minneapolis league where the bitch a hell of alot more than any St. Paul or Skyline league team.

Weird how everyone likes to talk about "the Glory Days" of when they were a great high school or college player.

| I don't see anybody talking about glory days here. If anything both leagues here are relatively young. The oldest team in the league would have to be Rosetown right now. McDermot, Carey and there catcher have been in the league for awhile. The rest of the teams have gone alot younger in the last few years. So as I said Scout your an idiot.

I've worked with a few associations, and the St. Paul guys deserve a little more respect than that. As a whole, they are the best in the metro area. It's a tough job, and none of you could do any better. We're not Major League umps any more than you are Major League players, so yeah, there will always be missed calls from time to time and we all have a bad game behind the plate every now and then. Speaking for myself and the assosiation, we always give you guys our best effort. $55 is a little low compared to H.S., but still very fair. Expos scout doesn't speak for most of us.

| Ok lets get this straight. It's $55.00 per umpire for a league game. $75.00 for one umpire for non-league games. Do you really think it's worth $55.00 for a base umpire? If anything the home plate umpire should maybe get $70.00 per league game and the base umpire get $40.00 per game. Most of the teams wanted to go to one umpire per game rather than two but I think that was shot down by the umpires. I could be wrong. But whatever, the umps are well compensated for what they do in my opinion. Like I said if you don't like it got to the the northwest association or go ump Legion or VFW. But from my experiance the umps have to deal with alot more in those games than in any of the St. Paul or Skyline League games.

| A lot of times the base ump has the tougher job in a two man system. It's only right to split the money 50/50. At the end of the season, it all evens out.

| To clarify, I'm not bitching about pay. I think its fair and I enjoy this league very much. I think most of you guys are class acts and I can say that I can't recall any player bitching at any game I was involved in last year. I'm just defending the St. Paul group of umpires and saying that, while we're not perfect, we try to be, and we give you our best effort every night.

| I could be wrong, but I don't think Budweiser is an umpire. I don't think he was complaining about low pay, but I could be wrong. Almost all of the umpires think the pay is fair. The cost of gas sucks, but we're all in the same boat on that.

| I play in the St. Paul League..... I am glad to see that the tone of this forum is becoming more positive. I would like to see the teams of this league concentrate more on making their individual teams better and not on the quality of the umpiring. There is no reason that a representative from the St Paul league can't be a state title contender EVERY YEAR. Minnesota is very fortunate to have amateur leagues this competitive, organized, and well attended by both players and umpires. I would like to see the level of play in the St. Paul league raised 2 or 3 notches so that not only do good players hope they can get on a team, but umpires aspire to work our games. There are enough quality ball players in this area to accomplish this.

| Don't let the umpires dictate the game outcome. Win the game by 10 runs and then you don't have to bitch about the calls that didn't matter. It's not like they are trying to blow the call.
