I'm confused with how the state Tournament bracket is setup. If you win your first game then lose your second game you go right back to the same place if you would've lost the first game of the tournament, only you probably have to play a better quality team. Can someone make sense of this? How come the teams that lose the first round game don't have to win a game to play the teams that lose a second round game?

This is for teams without first round byes.

Wow I never thought about that. Good point. I have no idea what they were thinkingbut that doesn't surprise me. It makes no sense.

Just a comment on the tourney bracket and part of the reason why it's setup the way it is. First off, it is nearly identical to last year, and I'm not advocating that was perfect, but it was used as a template. One small change was made but I’m not exactly sure what that was.

As you all know there is a huge expense this year that has not been part of prior tournaments. In any event rather than try to eliminate teams on Saturday as is often times the case it was decided to make sure all teams played before anyone was eliminated in hopes to add some to the attendance and potentially reduce the expenses charged to each team. I am not saying this will happen. Along the same lines they didn't want teams to sit until Sunday before playing.

The more significant issue is that there are only two sites really being considered as State Tournament playable fields and Midway is not available Saturday, or there could be games at both fields as has been done in years past. Not having the additional site and only four timeslots available creates the problem we all see.

I did suggest that they switch the Loser Bracket first round games so that teams who have potentially played twice also play a team who has potentially played twice. I’m not sure if this will be accepted.

Every year there are issues with the bracket that nearly everyone catches, the sure fire way to correct that is to eliminate the number of participating teams or make the entire first round single elimination, which a portion of it has been in the past. I'm not for either.

You'll also note that a change has been made in that there is no Monday championship game the, if necessary game, will be Sunday immediately following.

And there is no contingency on rainouts as far as I'm aware...

Just confirmed there will be no change to the bracket.

Bottom line is you need to play Friday night to really have a chance to win the Title, or win with non pitchers throwing a few games so you have guys left to pitch Sunday's double header.

Good luck everybody, it should be fun!!!

Yah, I'd say the easiest thing to do would be to make those 1st round games between the 2nd and 3rd seeds single elimination, but it hardly seems right to play a whole season and probably a double elim league play-off, just to have it come down a single elim game to start the state tourney. Maybe just give each league 2 seeds.

With all this said I still find it unfair for a team to win their first game then (if) they lose the second game to be put right back where they would've been if they lost the first one, except that they've played an extra game, and used more pitching, this is a huge disadvantage and teams are being penelized for winning an opening round. I find this absurd and poorly setup for a state tournament, I can't imagine the guys that put this together thought that it made sense.

Good Luck to all teams despite the poor brackets.

I think 3 teams per league gives a better representation of your league so I personally like it. Many of us play 8 team tournaments all summer in a weekend. That wouldn't seem much like a state tournament to me, but it did used to be that way.

Regarding the bracket, yes there is a chance you'll come across a team playing there second game against your third. The best way to avoid this is to win...

Rosetown A's site has Commanding Edge winning
3-2. Eikum may have fared better against CE rather than ending his season w/ a 1-day Saints contract....ouch!

Hmmm... Roosters lose 5-0 and Naughton was pitching.... I guess we know just how mediocre the Skyline really is. One down and two more to go!

Finally... some honesty... WOW! That's the first step in getting over your addiction to mediocrity HORNS! Maybe Naughton will pitch in the losers bracket and give you a third game to play!
