The Pub invited Baxters down to scrimmage today and Baxter's guys came down and whipped our asses all over the field, and gave us a great workout.

Thanks to all the guys on Baxter's for coming down and working out with us, it was alot of fun and you guys looked good, we appreciate you guys giving up your Sunday to come down and play.

Good luck in Fall ball guys and see you out there.

The pleasure was all ours Mark. Let me be the first to say to all that the pub wasn't fielding their full summer squad. It was just a great time. Really represented what softball is about. Just gettin together, having a good time, and bustin some balls. On a personal side note. Mark, first thanks for lettin me swing your bat. You mentioned hitting a heavy bag with my new bat when I get it. You also said wrap it in a towel. Did you mean wrap the bat or the bag? Thanks again for havin us this morning.

Ryman....Actually, when your bat comes in it will be covered in a real shiny coat of spray on plastic that the company uses to make the bat look nice. (I can't think of the guy's name right now but he plays for Team Miken on the Long Haul bombers) he recomended using a brillo pad or steel wool to remove that coating and scuff the bat up to help break it in. Then just beat on a heavy bag with the bat or hit off a tee to get some swings in. But if you're going to use it in practice, just let all the guys on the team use it in BP and it will break in quick.
Basically the day I got my bat, I just threw it to the team and said everyone use it in BP. It will have great pop right out of the wrapper.
Lots of guys say to rip off the grips and tape it up, I personally like to tape up the bat because I like the feel of a thin handle, but it is all personal taste I guess.

I will add that I vote to have D-Hop play left field and Sabballa play left center. They displayed some awesome maneuverability out there yesterday. But hey I am not the coach!

Mark, does the clearcoat on the bat really make that much of a difference in the length of break in period? Did you take yours off? And just in case you're frustrated about not being able to think of that guys name, team miken is Kenny Briggs and Bob Woldyk.

You are a demented little muppet! Keep it up and your ass will be playing the "hot-corner" in fall ball. And...the next time you block the plate on me when my big fat ass is coming home...I'm goin' Pete Rose on your ass.

Bet you didn't think my big fat body could actually leap completely over you did ya...but then again, you're only like 4'7"????

Ryman....No it doesn't help break the bat in, but supposedly the bat doesn't make great contact with the ball, particularly if it is spinning due to the clear coat....supposedly it slips and you mis-hit balls. Once the bat is good and scuffed it makes better contact.

Oh, by the way it was Kenny Briggs. I have a video of him and the long haul bombers, and he was talking about this subject and how he likes a taped bat and so on and so forth. He also discusses his grip and swing, and stuff like that. I can't swing like him anyway, but there are some good tips that he gives. Obviously the rest is just pure talent...the video isn't really geared toward guys like me, it is more for guys who are already great ballplayers who consistantly hit homers and it just gives them some advice on how to increase home-run hitting consistancy and frequency.
The Demarini video is better for me, how to hit line drives and ball placement.
And yes I did scuff my bat up and remove the grips and as you saw when you swung it, you got great pop...probably the best hit of the day.
