| I've been away and not had time to post. I have read all the recent posts with varying degrees of amusement. Most of the suggestions about changes came from people who played in other leagues. They admit they were bad leagues and now want to incorporate those changes into this league. That is their only commonality. But, I digress.
This the story of the nickel. If you read the posts closely there have been references to the commissioner and the nickel. This is some folks from DB's poor attempt at levity. The story goes back a couple years. A make-up game was scheduled for DB's. On said date they did not show. They contended they were not notified. Everyone else showed the other team, the concession folks, and the umpires. The commissioner paid the umpires the forfeit fee. DB's stalled for five games befoe making restitution. They used many excuses for not paying, while lobbying to have the game re-scheduled. The ultimatum came, pay up or no more baseball. The payment duties were delagated to John Murray's second in command. He proceded to drop a pink LA gear at the commissioner's feet with the comments " its ninety dollars in nickels, I went to the bank to get it just for you". After counting the money it was a nickel short.
I had to tell this story after reading the comment about the commissioner not being so stand-offish. It's no wonder you feel you got a cool reception after that stunt. It has not caused him to treat you unfairly in decisions or requests. He would not tell this story, because he is above the pettiness. I have known him for twenty years, so I can tell the story.
Like Paul Harvey says: Now you know the rest of the story.

| You sound like a lawyer, politician or an agent with your one-sided account of "the rest of the story"...I think you might want to actually look at "page 2" and stop drinking the Kool-Aid.
I am not going to get on here and try to defend something that happened 2 seasons ago...It is over with and done. Just don't call out individuals without putting your name bahind it as well.
As far as DB's trying for "petty attempts at levity" (90% of the league has no idea what you are attempting to say)...Actually they are a pretty funny group of guys...Have you ever seen them attempt to run the bases? High comedy right there...

| Try not to give him too much credit...lawyer, politician...sounds to me like just some guy that has a hard on for DB's for some reason. Twice now he has taken a shot at you guys for whatever reason.
As far as the story, is this really some big secret? I've only been in this league for a year, and I knew about it, and I think Archie may have even been the one to tell me. So what, he paid with nickels, kind of a dick move, but pretty funny nonetheless. Archie got his money, whether it was a nickel short, who knows, maybe, maybe not, but who really cares. Like Darren said, there is more than one side to every story, and in this case, I'm sure there are several. Unless you are one of the two parties involved, you really have no idea what happened. From what I have seen of Archie, he is thick skinned enough to take it and move on. As you said, he is above the pettiness. Are you not???
As far as discussing the changes in the league, it was merely discussion, and I never said the previous leagues were bad because of those rules. They were bad for many other, much more important reasons than that. My team enjoys playing in this league, and plan to for quite awhile. The only real criticism I have of this league is that it is run by ONE person. Archie, for what it's worth, my advice to you would be to have 2 other managers join you on a board and then any decision made would not be solely yours. Nobody can get pissed at you anymore because it wasnt your decision, but a league decision.
There, more discussion.
So, Argus, from the safety of your mother's basement hiding behind your little cyber handle, what's your REAL beef with DB's? I'm dying to know.

Why can't we edit posts after they are submitted?

| All I'm saying is that the rules changed about how make-up games are rescheduled after this incident.

| Whether you believe that Argus' story is a big deal or not, I am very glad that he included the payment was in a "pink LA Gear bag". That makes the entire story right there.
