dan, if there is going to be a play at home, are the runners allowed to touch the mat as apart of the base to avoid a collision or whatnot? i was talking to one of the umps about it and he said he didn't know. it might save so injuries if we can

The mat is NOT a part of home plate....runners have to touch the plate as does the catcher for the force play!

If someone is stupid enuff to slide thru those divots at home plate ... and takes out my female catcher during co ed.

Ill beat them with the mat personaly..

But he needs to slide when they can just jump in front of the ball to brk up the play...Rite Futrell lol..

The mat is not part of home plate. It is there as a guide for strikes and that's it.

It's always said when a guy dives head first into first base in baseball that if he had run through it, he would have probably beat the throw out. There is absolutely ZERO reason to slide into home in our leagues. Running will get you there faster. There is not a tag at home, it's a force out.

It's just not smart to slide into home. There is not a reason for it.

There was confusion with this Monday night. Our game on 5/7 we were told to slide into home plate and this was also told to us at our game 5/14. There was no way to even touch the home plate because that person was sitting on top of it. There was no way I would have been able to slide into.......I couldn't even see the plate. I ended up doing a "little dance" around him and was able to touch it before he got the ball. So the umps need to be informed that there is no sliding into home plate........and no one should be sitting on it either. This definitely needs to be clarified to all umps and teams. Thanks!
