| I think that someone was correct with saying that in Co-ed some teams are looking for walks when using the mat... But, one thing has to be addressed if the mat is taken away. There should be no sliding into home for any reason. The reason being is that almost all of the co-ed teams have females catching and I have personally witnessed my female catcher get slid into on quite a few occasions, and she was lucky to walk away with scrapes and a couple bruises... Its a force out anyway once you go past the line... Just a thought on something that has been bothering me, and now that the mat is gone I feel that sliding at home should be out.

| Disagree. Sliding is legal and can help avoid a more serious collision at any base.

| Being one of the catchers who has been knocked down, I agree with no sliding without the mat. But then, I was run over with the mat there so I guess it doesnt make any difference, huh? If sliding is legal, then everyone should have to slide if theres a play at the plate.

| Becca, the reason for the hash mark between third and home plate is so that people don't have to slide. It is like first base. The first baseman does not stand on first, they stand on the edge of first (when there are not 2 bases like we have). The catchers should be IN FRONT of home plate with a toe or side of their foot on home.
There really shouldn't be a reason for a runner to slide. They can get through home faster if they run, just like first base. If the throw coming home is off line and up third base line, then the catcher should get out of the way and let the ball hit the backstop. The catcher DOES NOT have right of way, the runner does. The catcher SHOULD NEVER be in a basepath or impede with a runner for any reason at all.
All of that being said, if any person in this league runs a catcher over, then you are in need of some serious counseling about the important things in life. Especially in a co-ed league. I'm not trying to demean or put co-ed down, but wake up for crying out loud.

| I understand now. Being new to the league, Im still not fully cognizant of all the rules. In the future I'll do as you said and keep my body in front of the plate
