Quick Question for who can answer this about player releases.

Can you only asked to get released from a team from March 15 - June 30?

If so, how come you can't ask for a release after the complete Class A season is over with? Thanks for the help!

That is correct you can only ask for a release during that time. From the State Board 2007 Handbook:

Article 11 - Releases; Section D.
"Players cannot be released after June 30th or before March 15th."

Probably in part because you can't sign a contract before March 15 or after June 30th without State Board and League permission. Which my guess is a direct correlation to having established residency by March 15.

For example, if a former AA player moves in from Tulsa, OK on March 16 he can't play because he didn't have permanent residency on March 15. Now I believe you can petition the State Board and League (and your respective By-Laws) to allow the player to play and if that is granted he would be legal.

Chris, thanks for the information. It's quite helpful.

Last two questions:

Can you still talk to other teams before March 15th? After that, make it official on the 16th?

Thanks.

Not if you throw in the mid-90's then just us...

No, you can talk to whoever you want, whenever you want (after the season in my opinion), but I would encourage you to be up front with the team you're planning on leaving at least after you've decided what you're going to do. I think that way too many times teams are led astray by a player they thought was going to play for them and then decided not to in the 11th hour. By then they may have already told two guys they've got a player in that position.

Make a commitment to a team, stick to your commitment, and let the team you were on know you're leaving. If I were you I'd recommend letting all parties know the best you can by or in January. I know that's how our team works. February first I don't want to be dealing with roster issues.

Again Chris, thanks for the info. I agree with letting both parties know before hand.

For the record... who is your team?

Johnson,

Your work should be disabling some of the Tonka guys so there's a level playing field at state. You're a big dude. Think like Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible. You can even have the theme song running through your head.

I fully expect to beat them straight up with everyone there. As should all the teams playing them.

They've got a very good club, stay away from the big inning 4+ runs and they are beatable. They are gonna have a few 2 or 3 run innings.
