I would like to see our league try the random draw to make the teams up next year. By ranking the players and drawing in order of ranking it will ensure fair consistent teams. It would be fun to see who you get!

I agree I would love to see our league take this approach and get away from the friendship factor which is too difficult to continue. We are all adults and what is wrong with playing with new people and then staying to cheer your friends on other teams on. We only have 6 teams so how split up can we get? Lets try it for a year and see what happens

Sorting and balancing teams through friendship is not ideal for any league. Inevitably someone will always feel unhappy, or left out of a clique. This league is filled with lots of nice, fun people. Let's try the draw, afterall, we are a baseball league.

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents. I think that selecting teams by draw is great for people who have been with the league for some time, I think that removing the "friendship factor" would cut down on the number of new or beginner players who would choose to join. Perhaps this is the goal?!? I think one of the strengths of the league is that players at a variety of levels are welcomed. Also, I like to have my buddy so we can take turns being DD.

I would like the players to be ranked and each team have a fair number of each rank. The teams do not seem to be fair. If players would like to play together on one team then it could be accomadated but each player must know that can not always be the case.

Mrs D - Currently players are ranked at the end of the season by their captains and then reviewed by the Executive for consistency across the league. When a new player joins they rank themselves and we go with that for team placement. The teams are put together by rank and this year the teams were all 1.25% appart so in our minds as fair as possible. We then have situtations where a top ranked player or a weak player drops out thus effecting the team and the skill level either goes up or down. We would hope to replace that player with the same skill set but that is not possible. The friendship factor makes it very difficult to place "grouped players" as you may have 2 "weaker" players or 2 very strong players who then need to be placed. It has become EXTREMELY challenging to meet everyones needs. Thanks for your input, we need to hear from the ladies and see what everyone wants.

I am favour of continuing to balance the teams with the friendship factor being a major consideration.

The major differentiation between our league and the other Unionville women's league is that friendship has always been emphasized. It's great that our level of baseball has become more competitive over the last few years but most of us play not only for the sport but to socialize with our friends.

I know that it's a challenge for the Executive to balance the teams but they do a great job of juggling two criteria; relationships and equal weighting.

I think the friendship factor is great especially for new players.

I like the idea of the friendship factor when it is one person requesting another person and it is mutual. However, with people recruiting players and groups wanting to all play together it becomes a painful experience for the Captains, Co-Captains and most of all the Executive who try their best to put teams together with a bunch of restrictions. So, because this one factor causes endless amounts of grief, I would like to see a draw for the existing players and maybe a friendship factor for those that are new to the league. With the understanding that you will try to make it work.

Every year when the year ends I look around and am happy for the new people I have met and come to know a little better. Every year I wish we could stay together for next year. And, as each season opens, I meet new people and just know that many more people throughout the league.

That being said, I have a very good friend that I have played with forever and in this league for the last 5 years.

I like the idea of the friendship factor, BUT I think it is time for a change. The Draw would allow us all an oppurtunity to meet new ladies and have a more competitive ball league. How far can we all really get from eachother with 6 teams??? We can all go out an support eachother. Sounds fun to me.
