| Happy New Year, all. I guess it's about time to renew the annual offseason discussion. Besides, I heard Eck and his money makers are getting bored.
Anything new teams-wise, Archie? With the Chefs dropping out and my team changing it's name to Budweiser, are we going with 9 teams next summer? If so, how many games are we looking at, as we are trying to figure out what we need to budget for the upcoming season.
Also, what are our plans for the field as far as improvements and such that you were planning and what did we end up with from the Golf? Maybe we should pick a weekend when the weather gets nice and get some guys out for a group effort. Might be tough to get guys out, but if we got a keg...
Archie, do you have any idea when you plan on having the meeting yet? If any managers or players would like anything addressed at the meeting, now might be a good team to bring things up. That way, we can get it on the agenda and have the meeting run smoothly, giving us more time to make fun of Chuck23A's.
As always, looking forward to everyone's responses.

| The tentative meeting date is February 12th, 7pm @ The Break in Cahokia, Il. We are presently nine teams. The plan is for an attempt to do a 32 game schedule. This will be subject to change if we give up a weekend in June for another golf tourney. We did not raise realistic money enough for lights. We average 45 to 50 scheduled night game a season. Out of that 18 to 20 get rained-out and made up during the day. The money could be more wisely spent the on the field itself. That being said we still need grunts to effect improvements. Be forewarned, fee increases are realistic with the on set of rising energy costs. Details as soon as I know them.

| Let's not make a travesty of the game and league at this years meeting.
The only changes that should be considered are ones that ADD integrity to the game...wood bats combined with 9 inning games.
NO Extra Hitters. NO Multiple Courtesy Runners. NO Free Substitution.

| I've played in the wood bat league in St. Peters the last two fall seasons and really liked it. The games go by a lot quicker, which means you can get a 9 inning wood bat game done in less time than a 7 inning aluminum game. I broke one $20 bat in 12 games - not expensive at all compared to buying a new aluminum bat.
I'm OK with any changes long as we don't start drug testing - I'm a Pirate now. (Yar)

| It would probably be okay to switch to wood with most of the hitters, but I doubt any pitchers would go for it.

| Wooden bat weekend. All teams play with wooden bats over 1 weekend.2 days of "CRACK" of the bat instead of "PING" of the bat.

| The comment about the pitchers was meant to be sarcastic, I will clarify next time.
I would be okay with wood bat weekend. What about a wood bat preseason tourney?

| Archie, as a follow up to our conversation the other night as far as field improvements go, I talked to Little Ben (Robinson) and Billy G more about it. Little B said they could get rid of that infield lip and make it a fairly smooth transition from grass to dirt. They have the tools and the know-how, we just need some guys to help, and for Ben's business to get some accolades of course, you know, Ben Robinson with DIAMOND TURF & LANDSCAPING (314-471-9053).
He also mentioned he could put together a professional fertilizer package for us at cost for the IF and OF, which would only be a couple hundred bucks.
Some of the other ideas that Archie and I came up with the other night included: a net along the 3rd base line to catch foul balls, padding on the backstop, a batter's eye would be cool, painting Pirate Pavilion (that white one), more dirt, which I think is already there, a couple of hand held drags for between games.
There is this measuring device with robotic arm to make sure the mound is 10 inches, but you'll have to ask Archie about that. It did sound pretty cool, though.
Anyone have any other ideas for field improvements?

| Norm, I dont think we will need built in coolers in the dugouts. Not with the beer movers we are planning to install. You know, similar to the people movers at the airport, only these go from concession stand to dugout. No need for the return movers going the other way as beer in 2008 is included in our league fees.

| I'm with BigSug on the integrity of the game, that is no extra runners or an extra hitter. Some have said that their players travel a long distance and may not get in the game if we don't allow the Extra Hitter. In my opinion, make a substitution like the other teams do. It's that simple. We don't need to make this league like a damn softball league. Archie, the Pirates will have a contingent of players show up for field improvements whenever you want to schedule a day for that. Where's Curleys?

| Wood bats! Some of us can't hit with the aluminun ones!! I vote for the aluminun, since baseball will be the only activity I do all year! The family and job makes it hard to keep up with everything! I could understand if we just got out of college but that isn't the case. The league was great last year! Our team had quite a few injury's and no shows- so sometimes it is good to use the substitution!!! I am also in for helping on the field improvements!!!!!!
