| Hey Smitty how are you doing, I hope all is well. So when do these meetings begin? I'm ready lets get it rolling. Are we playing ASA or USSSA this year? Are we going to have to sell our Freaks or will they still be legal? I have questions, many, many questions and I need answers.

| I believe we will be ASA. There wasn't much talk of it through the fall and it might be tough to switch at this point. I could be wrong, just my thoughts. I know after the coventry turkey trot artie did with usssa umps, people were left undecided. I heard "Neither one is all that great." amongst other things.
On a positive ASA note, I talked to the head of our umpires recently and he was very open to some of my suggestions and had some of his own. So hopefully the lines of communication are open and we can include some accountability and organization.
on this asa note, ill post their current bat list today.
meetings are usually the last monday of feb.
and finally, i hope all is well with you.

| Smitty, I know there are alot of guys who are extremely upset about the freak being on the list since it has been legal for years in ASA and they were wondering if the league could allow the bat? If everyone in the league agrees, can we allow the continued use of the freak?
On a personal note...I'm suuuper thanks for asking and how are you my friend? I'll call you soon to catch up.
Ernie....if you want a "Planet Mertog" I'll brew one up...not a problem, but is there a call for it now...is there enough people still logging on in the off season? I hope to have the time to do one weekly this season.

| smitty the ASA bat list sucks so why dont we try and change the list to USSSA or NSA? since we adopt ASA by laws aren't we allowed to do whatever the league wants? If we change the bat list then we just have the managers from each team bring a copy to the field so the umps now what to look for when they check.

| I personally don't care what bat list is used, my only concern is for the guys who shelled out big bucks for freaks and now can't use them. I ave no problem just sticking to the old ASA bat list. I can't see using USSSA bats in the small fields that we play on as it is. My vote is just to continue using the old bat list.
And just so you all know, Uncle Mertog is winning the batting title this year and de-throning Lemdawg.

| We are an ASA league so we should use the ASA bat list. If not, just approve any bat. The Freak wasn't allowed at Clegg last season and that is an NSA league so that should say all you need to know about that bat. We play at small fields and have some older pitchers. Man up, use a ASA bat. Let's play it straight. Softball is about hitting line drives, not about using a Freak to hit HR's out of 280 foot fields...

| the coventry league has its own rules using the asa guidelines. and nsa you cans use the freak plus go figure a 120 bat rather than the freak a 100+. nsa didnt buy into the original freak. a bat is a bat, its just the fact that alot of people have non asa bats. so myself i have probably 12 bats. 7 of them are freaks 4 of them are in the garveyard, broken in half. beacsue i let my whole team use them. so now think about the guys on your team and how mnay of the use their own bats, not many. usssa is more fun and the most popular aroound the state. they offer a e divison along with a E-rec for sunday morning teams. mertdawg im all yours baby, bring it on. i just have to beat knight hahaha

| just to throw my two cents in about the freak situation.I have pitched in many u-trip and nsa tourneys and pitch full time in an NSA league. The Freak being banned from play did not save me from being tagged in the leg by an old synergy,by far a more dangerous bat.My point is if a guy the size of Danny Prata hits a liner at you,it doesnt matter what bat is in his hand. All the composites are just as dangerous as the next.Legalize it!

| Let's knock down the bat list even further and see who the real hitters are. Instead of the composites and painting and shaving and anything else you can do to alter them. Get rid of all the composites and lets see who can hit .700 with an old school Supercell or TPS. Yeah fuckers I'm back!

| ryno u used to be able to hit 700 with power with the supercell and tps but that was with blue dots and u were 20 years younger. your an old prick now and would prolly bat 700 but thats because you would bat 1.000 the first few weeks then everyone would realize how much you have aged and then come in to rob raymond depth ....dragging ur avg down to 700.

Will Ryno's wife even let him play and will Ryno show up on the field this year?

| I notice it's all the old timers like myself that want the bat list to be as restrictive as possible. Although I must say, Ryno is not that old, he just looks like he is :) I will just never get used to seeing HR after HR sail out of fields that only the top hitters used to be able to hit it out off.
So Ryno, are you coming back next year for sure then?

| I have an EST, CU31 alloy baby.I can rap out singles all day with that badboy.I still cant hit homers even with a freak. Question,if a guy bats .700 with no power is he a better hitter than a guy who bats .700 and hits a bunch of home runs? I mean there is no defense for a ball hit 400 feet. A singles hitter has to place the ball accurately. I myself have never hit .700,I got to .698 and got walked a bunch. lol

| If you ask me, the .700 hitter with no power is the more skilled hitter, but the .700 hitter with power would be the more desirable addition to a team. .700 hitters of any kind are a pretty rare bird anyway. If you take a look at Clegg, which has long had an impartial third party deciding what is a hit, the guys who led the led last year hit somewhere in the mid .600's.

Did I miss something here? A guy who hits .700 with power somehow is not as skilled a hitter as a guy who hits .700 without power? WHAT?
Power hitting is a skill too my friends, especially when done consistantly enough to hit .700. Anyone who hits .700 is obviously skilled no matter how it gets done. Personally I'll take the .700 hitter with power over the base hitter each and everytime, it's nice to have a guy who can take one out when the situation calls for it. Bases loaded situation having a guy you can simply tell to take it out and does it consistently is nice to have.

| I have spent more time on this site in the last two weeks than I did all summer. Not much else to do when recovering from double hernia surgery...and three more weeks before I can lift anything more than 20 pounds or swing a bat :( Let me explain my argument further. Especially in this league at some of the smaller fields like Foster or that one with the short RF, any fairly well hit ball will carry out...not so for the hitter without power. At a larger fields, the less powerful hitter will find the OF cheats in giving the hitter less area to drop it in front. Those are two examples of why a .700 with no power is more "skilled" in my opinion. Not to mention that the further back the OF play, the wider the gaps become between OF's making the easier to hit. I can see both arguments, but those are my main points.

| Mertog you have those answers to your own questions backwards. I can't hit .700 anymore as evidenced by my average the last couple of years. I don't think I could even with an Ultra II. My skills declined faster than Jim Rice.
Also "THE WIFE" has yet to reveal herself so my wife still lets me to play. Most likely because it gets me out of her way for a few hours. However work may start getting in the way.

| Nate8...are you not claimed yet? I know you and your game from Clegg. I know it's tough because of this leagues rules, but I will vouch for the fact that this guy is a good pitcher and a line drive machine. Trust me, if I wasn't one of the pitchers on my team I would recommend we pick him up. He want drop bombs, but he will throw strikes and get on base at least half the time. Looking forward to facing you on some team this year...
