| Uncle Mertog and the Village Pub will be going their separate ways this year. The split is an amiable one it was just a matter of having too many guys and a difference of opinion as to what direction the team would be going in this year.
In a vote by the players, the players decided to keep their team together and move on with a new sponsor, so that they could keep the team together.12 players from last year in addition to 6 more from fall ball will form the nucleus of the team.
Derek will be putting the Pub in as a new team and has 4 guys who will be staying with him.
Basically what happened was that Derek wanted to cut the roster down to 16 this year and I simply can not tell guys whom have played for me for years that I have to cut them out, in addition the guys who played for me in fall ball who I lured over to Coventry and loved the league so much that they wanted to stay would have been gone. I just felt that I needed to make the move to make everybody happy.
In addition I didn't want to screw over Derek and the Pub because this year there is an open spot so he can still put a team in. Next year he might not have had the opportunity to do so if things didn't work out. So rather than the Pub being stranded without a spot I thought it best to do it now.
I think it will be best for both teams.
I have procured three sponsors, Moore's Motor in Coventry will be the main sponsor of my team. Since it is family I can call the team Team Mertog for now.

| Mark.. I thought once Jr's left (broke up), that opened up the spot for Charlie Sprague's new team? Where does/will the Pub fit in? I also thought Precision was next on the list to join our league. Maybe I am having a mental breakdown or just tooooo much caffiene.
VFW, Bothello's, Del Padre, Wyld Stallions, Crowe Bar, Coventry Fire Fighters, Chris Moulton, Harris, Sunset (forgot your new name..sorry),PNA, A+, Eaton, Club Joques, Patriot Oil (Baxters), and Team Mertog. That makes 15 teams, Charlie Spragues' would be 16...or...is the Village Pub number 16 and Charlie Sprague is out.
One last question to throw the monkey wrench in...WHO gets the Seniority? The NAME Village Pub or the PLAYERS on Team Mertog? I know it is something like the Crowe Bar situation from last year, but not the same. Tomorrow we can hash this out at the meeting. 7:00pm PNA

| In such a case where both the sponsor and the team have met the league requirements, the position in the league shall be rewarded to whom retains the majority of contracts of players whom played for the team the previous year. The other shall be granted the first available position in the league.
the last part of the new by law #6.
this means since mark has an overwhelming majority he gets seniority and exemptions....pub will become 16 on seniority and be a "new" team and follow the rules of a new team....i believe.

| So Charlie Spragues' team is out because
Village Pub still is a sponser, yet a NEW sponser to a new set of players and Team Mertog which was the old Village Pub, but with 9 or more contracts takes their seniority due to By-Law 6-A.
I think that makes sense...right??? I'm still scratching my head wondering if I just typed that correctly. Argh....

| Chip...that is essentially correct. I have 12 contracts from the previous year (the overwhelming majority) so the position goes to the team. Pub gets the last spot because they have seniority over a team and new guys whom have not presently been in the league.
Which is fair to everyone involved.
It's not the way I wanted it to go but it is what it is I guess.

| Looking forward to playing Merts Traveling Allstars or Merts Senior League Allstars this season lol just kidding. Average age on that team means nothing those are some great players that played with you in the fall and now you can fit most of em on your team. Good luck but I dont think you will need it.

| Ah the conspiracy theorists are out in full swing.
Mac, I'm bringing back the summer team the fall ball team was an open roster so I was able to bring in players, but I can't bring them all in. I have 12 guys from the summer team coming back. Of course I will be adding guys to the roster, but two of them played for me two years ago and were out last year, and 4 more from the fall ball roster who are non-exempt and only play in Coventry. Of course I have two exempts to use and I will use them for Donny Plante and Billy Plante. No different from any other team!
I don't have Steve Yankee, or DJ or Jeff or guys like that so you don't have to worry about having any competition this year over at the VFW.

| Big Ern, unfortuantely I can't keep most of those guys. Steve Yankee is out, DJ is out Jeff is out, George is out...it is essentially the summer team last year with the addition of Donny Plante and his brother for my exempts. Billy is having surgery and might not be able to play.
I'm keeping Charlie Hien who will only play here, Aaron Ringer who only plays here so essentially I only have 4 new players.
The only problem as you said was that we have a very old team, which is essentially what I want..the older guys take it far more serious than the younger guys and show up. That was my main issue getting guys who show up and don't play anywhere else so they don't dissapear come tournament time or to play with their other teams.
The only problem with the PUB was that Derek insisted on cutting the roster down to 16 or 17 and I have 17 guys and he has 5 (unreliable guys) whom literally abandoned us last year when we played you in the playoffs and quite a bit during the regular season. They just didn't show up, call, warn us...they just vanished. So the rest of the team didn't want them back after they literally screwed us. The total number would have been 22 players and I'm not going to kick guys off who show up as opposed to guys who are probably better players but only show up sparingly...in my opinion it wasn't fair to them. That was the whole problem in a nutshell.

| Mac, actually I'm still going to be helping the Pub out, I'm sending them a pitcher and trying to recruit some guys for them, I have a ton of guys at work who want to play but we just don't have room for everyone so I'll send him as many guys as I can.
In addition, Derek doesn't have a computer so I offered to do his stats for him and upload them and what not. It's not like we had a major blow out, there are just too many guys and I hate saying no to anyone. Plus as I said, I'm not really into dealing with kids again. In the last few years it just got to the point where I would rather sacrafice talent for reliability. (Stage 5 guys are better to have than 3 or 4)
I'm not going to pace the parking lot at 9:55 am calling guys, downing tums, smoking ciggarettes and wearing out my cletes on the tar pacing nervously wondering if certain guys are going to show or not.
Two summers ago, I would go to the field and line it, the drive to North Kingstown to pick a player up, drive back to Coventry and pick up two more guys who lost their licenses, then call guys up until the game started to get them out of bed. Last summer I finally found a bunch of guys who would be there early and I didn't have to make any phohe ne calls, except for the ones that I mentioned earlier. Like I said they are they are three exceptional ball players that I am losing but I'm also losing a huge amount of aggrevation. I'm gaining older guys who are dedicated and show up.
The whole issue is reliability and team chemistry, and I may have 10 guys who are 40 and over but it keeps me from becoming 60 before my time. I've gotten grey enough!

| Mac, Harris is always solid every single year. You have VFW who is a friggen monster, Moulton who is a monster, PNA is said to be one of the top teams again this year,Crowe is rumored to have gotten alot better this year too, Harris and Bothelo's are tough, my team will be solid (hopefully) Joques is tough, A+ will be very tough, Sunset is scrappy, Patriot (Baxters) very scrappy, Pub will still be scrappy, it's going to be a great year and I'm betting you will see a log jam for the playoffs again this year.
I don't know too much about the other teams this year like Eaton, Stallyns, CC FIRE, DelPadre but I'm willing to bet they've all improved.
Gonna be a fun year.

mert ya i had a feeling it wasnt a falling out of any sorts just think that people are at different levels / stages in there life and if you cant get the guys to show up u dont have a team and quite a big headache which is understandable why you wouldnt need that.
definately is gonna be a tough year to battle thru the league but i know you and i wouldnt want it any other way
o ya and lags is just mad i wont pull it for him queer hahah

| As long as Mert's in the league still, everything will be fine. There's just certain things that need to remain constant in order to have a fun year, and the participation of Mertog (where'd that name come from anyway?) is one of those things.
Now that I buttered you up, would you like to buy a USSSA bat for Team Mertog? I really wanna unload this thing cause it'll be a waste cause I don't use it. I've be asking $70 o.b.o. But since you're an important guy, I'll give it to you for $50 straight up.
