Archie, and everyone else...

I talked to short Ben and the plan is to get a sod-cutter and start going at the infield on Sunday (16th).

We figured Ben could work the sod-cutter and someone can follow him, cutting the pieces. Then, the rest of the guys can work on rolling it back, digging it out and tamping it, like we did on the other section in front of home plate.

Depending on how much help we get, it shouldnt take too long, maybe a few hours, and we can still work on the other stuff.

Plan is to start at 9am (sorry, Ben's idea, not mine).

Who can make it??

To someone who gets up before the roosters, no problem. We can use any help even if late.

I can be there at 9. Unfortunatley I have to leave early to attend a Baptism. Which is bad on two levels. I would rather work, and I dont want to go to a baptism.

I talked to Ben and 2 others that are coming from my team and we are planning on getting there at 8ish. Ben and Billy both have things to do in the afternoon, so they wanted to get started as early as possible.

If anyone else wants to come at that time, please do so, if not, get there when you can.

Archie, will you make sure the gate is open so we can get in there?

When I left, the field was starting to look pretty good. How is everyone feeling about how it ended up?

Gabe - if the detail was handled properly nobody could see by the time the work was done. Somebody tell me I'm wrong.

Norm, I disagree. By the time we quit, or rather started drinking around 3, maybe a little earlier, I think the field was looking pretty good.

There is still some work to be done, but overall I think we got a ton accomplished.

Cut out the lip around the infield and straightened the line from 2nd to 3rd so it doesnt go straight into the bag at 2nd. Dug out and resodded a pretty large area around first base. Dug out and resodded around the pitchers mound and now it's a circle, and straightened both the 1st and 3rd basepaths. Also, hung the pad behind home plate and the green fencing in CF, and replaced the baseboards around the backstop. Chuck and his, what I would guess to be great-grandson, he was probably about 20 or so, got started on the gate but didnt get finished.

The tractor needs a new tire, so we still need to grade the infield and level out all the dirt we dumped on it and flatten out where we took out the sod.

We talked about doing all the finishing work the weekend after Easter.

I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Very nice job guys! Good effort by all. Sod cutter made a big difference (thanks Ben). Put up mesh bunting on centerfield fence, padding on backstop, replaced bad boards , Chuck put up gate (and made a new best buddy) and everyone else worked shovels and rakes. We got a lot done but have a lot more to do

I think if we get about 5 volunteers from each team and we get out real early in the morning, when those bastard moles start tunneling, we dig em up. How you outfielders don't sprain or break an ankle chasing flyballs is beyong me. I almost sprained an ankle just walking to centerfield last week. Behind 2nd base in short left center is where the moles have their convention site or maybe the mole whorehouse. I felt like I was walking up a hill they had mounded so bad.

License to kill moles by the government of the United Nations. Man, free to kill moles at will. To kill, you must know your enemy, and in this case my enemy is a varmint. And a varmint will never quit - ever. They're like the Viet Cong - Varmint Cong. So you have to fall back on superior firepower and superior intelligence.

Pay no attention to that bush, moving around over there by that tree, it's just a bush. Nothing to look twice at. Nothing to be alarmed about. This looks like it could be gravy. I smell varmint poontang, and the only good varmint poontang is dead varmint poontang. Freeze mole!

Yes, a great deal was accomplished by a crew of twelve. We average 150 plus guys in the league, so we have more manpower available. The sod cutter was the right tool for the job. I, too want to thank Ben Robinson, he hasn't played a game and has already made a substantial donation of time and materials. It is this kind of dedication that is going to make this field improvement project successful. We are taking Easter weekend off. We have two weeks to rally the troops for March 29 or 30 whichever is the better weather day. I agree the outfield needs to be addressed. Whether it is rolled or we trap the moles, it needs to be done. I also want to thank Johnny MacDonald from Mac's Levee Inn who donated the beer. He has been good supporter of our league in his short time in business. We have had a good start, we just need to keep pushing. I didn't mention everyone who helped, because it usually ends up being the same names and you know who you are. THANKS.

The Pirates have a practice game scheduled on the 30th, but as you mentioned, there are 150 guys in the league to help. Free beer, most of the Cardinals will surely be there then. Come on fellas, if Chuck can show up, I know some others can too.

If we do this Sunday I think we can get a couple of Bulls in the pasture. Herding up these sons'a'bitches can be difficult. Are we talking of a 9a start if we do it that day?

The field is soggy so Sunday may be the better day. We don't have to start at 9am. Let's say 10am. Need to check on getting a roller for the outfield. We have paint.

The field isn't finished and looks BAD. The forecast doesn't look good either. If we don't work on it tomorrow evening, we may not play this week or this weekend.

I should also include that I successfully consumed more margarita's this evening than Joe O'connor for the first time ever! KICK ASS! If your not impressed, you should be.

But seriously, I'm available tomorrow evening to get the field in better shape if anyone wants to work on it.

Pirates11,
I'm not trying to point fingers, but it's a little annoying of you to challenge my attendance. I've participated in every work day I've been available. Including days where no Pirates were represented.

Either way, the field needs another day with rakes and shovels. Anyone want to meet out there this evening?

I think the appropriate phrase is "a little less conversation and a lot more action please." Gabe you have way too much time on your hands if you are googlin Toby Keith phrases. Actually one of Toby Keith's songs is just right for our team - "I'm not as good as I once was but I am as good once as I ever was." Now get your ass down to that field and start raking.
