6 Brand New 12' x 20' tarps $77

I think that this (or something similar) is a purchase the league should consider.

Enough of the guys in the league live close enough to the field that we could keep 'em locked up until they were needed. Like, this evening for example, and roll 'em out when we need them.

No one is gonna steal them while it's raining and it makes more sense to spend the money on them vs. spending the money on unsuccessful attempts to dry the field.

They could save the field and make it workable, even if they don't keep all the water off, it'd be better than the current situation.

We have also found a place to get the real deal Diamond-Dry for about $15 dollars a bag. The stuff really works and I think could have saved the late games last Sat.

We used it, combined with a wet-dry vac to salvage several of our High School games.

Just putting this out there, I know we all want to play ball - let's try to give us the best chance we can to get out there.

....though I do agree with Bull 45, tarps is a great idea.
FYI, first 2 weeks last year, 14 rainouts.

Jeremy, in theory it's a great idea, but in reality I don't think it would work well enough to be worth it.

20X12 tarps are too small. You figure you would need at least 2 rows to cover the infield using the 20 foot side. 90 feet baselines plus probably 2 extra to cover past the bags. You would need to overlap them so the water doesnt run under the next one so you couldnt use the whole 12 feet.

You're looking at needing close to 50 of those sized tarps to cover the field. A single tarp to cover the entire infield would cost in the thousands for a new one. However, if we could find a used one somewhere, that would be the way to go.

I think Lammy's right, it's April and we just need to deal with it like everyone else.

The good news is that this league pretty much gets all their rainouts made up unlike a lot of other leagues I have played in.

And it's been raining all day again today. I will guess tomorrow night's game will be a washout too as the ground cannot accept any more rain, it's saturated enough already.
Dear God,

Enough with the rain already! Please grant me this one request and I'll try and convert my team.

Amen.

I wasn't thinking about covering the whole field. The grass area would be fine uncovered. Everyone knows the biggest problem is the 3rd base/Short Stop area. A few tarps there and one covering the batters box/catchers area, one on first and second, a little Diamond Dry and I think we'd have a shot at playing.

Just spitballing here...

I wasnt talking the whole field either. You would need that many for just the dirt. It's way more than 20 feet across, probably double that, if not more.

Saturday morning there was standing water from 3rd base past where the SS would stand, pretty much front to back. If we covered around just 3rd base where it is the worst, we will still get issues with water draining under the tarps. We actually talked about that Sat and that's the conclusion we came to. There was also standing water around home plate and up the 1st base line, and a little on the 3rd base line.

Sunday there wasn't any standing water, but you sank about an inch, maybe a little more with each step.

We do need some more dirt at 3rd and short and that would help it drain better.

The other thing we need to do is remove the lip that is in foul ground by 3rd base. If that were gone the water would drain off much better.

I think the field just got douched this weekend and there was nothing we could do about it. If it were 85 Saturday, we probably would have played Sunday.

The weather just sucks right now. We have plenty of dates available with the Monarchs dropping out, so Archie shouldnt have any problem getting the games rescheduled.
