Author TOPIC: CHANGES FOR FALL SEASON
GCFFA

With the spring season winding down, we are beginning to look ahead to the upcoming Fall Season. In our first year aiding in the operation of the league, there has been both growth and at times some confusion.

We are asking the Teams and players to voice their requests and opinions here on the message board. Any and all suggestions will be heard and will then be considered at the captains meetings held prior to the fall season. Again we want to stress the importance of the captains meetings as any changes will be voted on at that time.

We also want to thank all the teams that have participated in the Spring season. We are looking forward to a bigger and better future for flag football in CT.

I like the thought of playing 4 qtrs instead 2 halves. Kick offs after every score and fumbles on Kickoffs only.

Those are all good, however they are different from national and tournament 9-man rules.
That doesn't mean that we cannot implement them, but do we want to deviate from the national format or not.
Locally, it would have no negative effect, but what would happen when we host a tournament or our teams travel to a tournament. Our teams would then be at a disadvantage as we would be used to playing a different style.
Again, just trying to look at the big picture.

Your right but most of have been playing by the national rules for year so we know what to expect when we enter one of those tournaments! If you host a tournament use the national tournament format!

Good point.

How long would the quarters be? Kickoffs don't seem to be a problem but the fumble suggestion would be a concern because of the increased risk of injury. There are however, a few variations of the "onside kick" rule that might be more interesting.

15 min quarters running time until the final 2 minutes of the 1st and 2nd half. I agree with the fumbles but there should be something to allow some sort of onside kick attempt.

Remember, the fall is NFL time and teams aren't gonna want games that end after 1:00pm. that means we would have to have at least two fields to get in all the games on time and that has not been easy to get.
What about 28 min halves. this way we gain 4 min per half and we don't waste the time in changing sides each quarter

As for On-side kicks, I've seen 2 rules this year that could possibly work.

1. The ball must be kicked at least 20yds and the kicking team must be the first team to make contact with the ball. if they do it would be their possession at the spot of contact.

OR

2. The ball must be kicked in the field of play inside of the receiving teams 20yd line and the receiving team must be stopped short of their own 20 yd line. This rule was only available when inside the 2 min warning of the game and the kicking team must be within 2 scores

If we have as many teams now in the Fall "WE GOTTA DO BETTER" 2 conferences/4 divisions something. Forget that fumble on kickoff Shyt unless you wanna deal with Busted head and dislocated legs and arms.
keep things in line of the all known rules we been all playing USFTL. I be AT those Meetings
