if there has been any year to switch to a one bracket 8 team playoff, its this year. you have 7 solid teams and park tavern. this should be discussed and be deeply analyzed. alot of teams feel this way groove, pull the trigger.

if anyone does not think it would work, discuss.

something to think about...we could do a double elimination tournament instead of 3 game series? not sure on # of games though. the thing is we already paid umps for a certain # of games. which came from our league fees.

here is the breakdown...if you keep it the way its been there are two sets of four team brackets consisting of a maximum of 12 first round games. second round(which would be the finals consists of max of 6 games. which comes to a total of 18 games. if we went to a 8 team bracket, there would also be 12 first round games. second round would be semis and be 6 games max. the only difference would be an extra round of 3 games for finals. I think it would bring excitement for all teams, especially the ones who might just miss top 4. i feel the concensus of the league likes the idea.

actually in regards to the above post...a double elimination bracket with 8 teams has a maximum of 15 possible games. that is if it goes into the " if" game. and the top six in the playoffs with all games going to the max 3 game series also is a maximum of 15 games. i'll pass this on to groovey adn see what happens.

If I am reading this right, this discussion is about three options for playoffs.

A) Keep it the way it is now. Top four make the playoffs...bottom four play in some other bracket for the hell of it. All series are best of three, max games = 18.

B) Have all eight teams make the same bracket in this format: 4 first round games ( 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5) That would narrow it down to a final four, then those two series would narrow it down to a final two. All series would be best of three. All series are best of three, max games = 21

C) Have all eight teams make the same bracket in this format: Double Elimination tournament style. Four first round games, four second round games (two of which would be losers bracket games), Three third round games (two losers games and a winners game), Then a losers bracket final and championship. Max games = 15

Does that sound right?

C may seem confusing because its unlike most playoff formats. The nice thing about it is that teams that lose that first round game will then fall into a bracket with other losers. They dont have to keep going up against winning teams. Only two teams will be out in two games (which they most likely would have been anyway) and others get a few extra games out of it.

If done properly, it would only take five days (or two and a half weeks) to run. Same as option A.
