| League Commissioners,
Has anyone ever thought about just having a final weekend of the season to see who actually is the best team in Minnesota Amateur period! Lets take the top 2 teams from each class A,B,C and have a 6 team, friday evening, saturday and sunday match-up to settle it. Each year rotate class A-C winner to have to play 1st round. It would be a lot of fun and look what i have below, im sure there would be lots of plubicity, fans and revenue and to actually have a Amateur champion. The classes to me mean nothing i want to see who the best team in Minnesota is each year. Now that is some bragging rights. Is is that hard to bring the classes together for one last week of baseball or is this seeming more to be about politics?? Please advize
Example year one: year 2 class A year 3 class C #1 seed has to play 1st round. Friday evening and saturday afternoon games:
Game 1 Class C #1 vs Class A #2 friday 7:30pm Game 2 Class B #2 vs Class C #2 saturday 12:00pm winnner of game 1 vs Class B#1 Saturday 3:00pm winner of game 2 vs Class A#1 Saturday 6:00pm Finals 2:30pm Sunday to determine the Champion of Champions!

| I would abolutely love this. More baseball the better. Not too mention, there is only 1 champion.

| Great idea in theory, but I don't think it will accomplish much. Class A will have been done for three weeks with no one to play, whoever they are will be at a huge disadvantage.
The Class A team is from a confined area but B and C are all over. Mankato's not exactly close, Elko's not bad, but there are some Class B & C teams all over the state that will have driven a ton already for three straight weeks.
Once you win your respective tournament I really don't see teams getting up to play another round robin tournament and then you'll start getting teams with partial squads and that doesn't prove anything.
And where are you gonna play? It's probably going to be inconvenient for two teams.
I don't see it happening, just my opinion.

| Thanks for the feedback guys. Class A will indeed have 3 weeks off but dont see that as being such a setback, being very rested with pitching and 3 weeks doesnt make you that rusty for hitters. Bottom line its for fun and would in my opinion generate a little more excitement in amateur baseball. A Neutral site being no more than a 30-40 min drive for any team would not be that bad. We all play for the love of the game and im sure anyone that loves baseball would have no problems spending another weekend of ball to determine a true champion from the best 6 teams in Minnesota to settle the class discrepencies. True that some younger teams have college players leaving, and if they cant field a team the next ranked team in that class takes there place. Another idea is to have a Early May preaseason tournament the follwing year with the 6 teams would be an idea to start the season. Iv'e heard all this talk about whos better A,B,C lets settle it. Bottom line is theres not enough promotion of amateur ball in MN which is probably one the best in the country. With quality promotion and coverage over time maybe the media and newspapers could come out and cover what would the the best local tournament in Minnesota. What would it take to get done? Im on board to support in any way. Is it funding, politics etc? Something to be discussed in 2009 I think every player and coach would agree that this would be a ton of fun and theres no reason why it shouldnt happen. Lets spread the idea around and figure out a way to make it happen in the near future. Mankato, Dundas, Elko, Sauk Rapids, Saint Louis Park, Green Mill? Whos the best?

| "Very rested"... The best thing that could happen without throwing for three weeks is that they don't get hurt. The hitters would be o.k. at best. The end of the year is pretty much definitely out in my opinion. I can't imagine having played this weekend. Anyone who's back at school probably couldn't play and if they are Division I they can't play. If those guys are starters it would make for a completely different team.
The best time to do this would be the end of June first part of July. What's the plan when a team lik Granite Falls wins Class C and Cold Spring wins Class B with Howard Lake runner up for C and Rochester runner up for B? How are you gonna keep that to a 30-40 minute drive?
This is a great idea but until it becomes mandatory by the Board it will never happen.

| My one and a half cents I have played B in the late 80's, A and B in the 90's as well as B and A the past nine seasons. In the 80's B was far better then A nearly all the time. During the 90's A started to and over all has remained better the past 15 years or so.
Not that B is not good and any team can win against any opponent on any given day but here is my synopsis on B versus A.
The very good B teams have a very good guy on the bump but 2,3 and 4 usually won't match up to good class A teams. Bull pen depth at B is normally better then at A. Although with B and the three draftees their state tourney teams can easily compete with any class A pitching staff.
A in terms of power and guys that played at higher levels is better then B. Defense at A is overall better but some B teams as well as players are very good at picking it up and throwing it around.
As we all know there good teams regardless of level and good players as well.....
My proposal to perhaps get things started would be to have a an mini allstar tourney with one team from Class B and C each and two teams made up of all the Class A clubs...something like a weekend round robin or something. If the best class A players could be picked without too many politics to play on one team then do a three team round robin.
Tough thing would be to schedule it.
Obviously a combined B and A state tourney would be outstanding if that happened I look for the team with the best pitching staff to win it and that very well could be a B team.....overall A is better.

| I like the idea too, but the logistics of it are very ugly. Having 6 teams in it, some play up to 3 games while others only 2 hardly seems fair. I would suggest only the 3 champions play a round robin tourney. Of course that could end up with 3 teams at 1-1. Plus with drafting players, are they true teams? (Another discussion altogether). I really like the All-Star game approach. That way if there are some guys gone or unavailable you have the whole league to fill in for them. You could have 4 teams: Class C, Class B, Class A Mpls, and Class A St. Paul. Round robin or Single (or double) elimination. Not sure how far I would drive to see it, but it would be fun.

| One of the issues with that format would be timing. Some teams struggle to get all their games in during the summer because they have to wait for their college kids to get back forcing them to play a crunched schedule, while others will play 50+ games. It would also be a disadvantage to the teams with little pitching because unlike the class A all star game where each pitcher only throws one inning, or two at most, the pitchers would have to extend their pitch counts/innings which may not allow them to throw in an important game the week before or after the 'series'. I don't see a round robin happening. Perhaps B plays C while the mpls A plays the st paul A, winners advance, losers play each other? Or one of the A's plays C, one of them plays B, same win/loss format.....It's only one less game, but it does make a huge difference on arms/roster size.

| I would think it would be an end of the season tourney, but I do not know of how many class B & C All-Stars are in college, but I would guess B&C could like Class A certainly could make good teams without the guys that have to leave. Around July 4th could work, most teams don't play (league)games anyway. Yes, some players may be out of town or with family, but would it be more than leave for college? And if the game(s) gets to be a big deal, maybe those guys would stick around for it. I guess it would be for the commisioners to work out, they have the resources. I suppose getting the State tourneys running smoothly is a higher priority though.

| I definitely like the idea of the All-Star games because one team losing even one guy can make the difference between a dominate team and a very good team. Same goes with a pitcher. Case in point, what happens to Minnetonka if they don't have Shallenberger? They become a very good team not a great team and the playing field is leveled a lot. But if an All-Star team loses Shallenberger, who you could make a very strong case is the best offensive player around right now, there are other guys who can pick-up the slack.
I like the All-Star idea, but I would say let's get the Minneapolis/St. Paul game scheduled first!!!
I would als say one team from each Class, not two from A. Why? There are the same number of teams in A & B so A should not be unfairly represented. The 4TH of July wouldn't work because many of the Class B All-Star games are then. I would say we don't want to change tradition, we just want to add to it.
