| I recently covered Oak Park’s 34-24 football victory at Southfield-Lathrup, and later read a different account of the game online saying that senior running back Edwin Baker — a great kid and a great competitor — was credited with more than 200 yards rushing.
Either my math was bad or there was some padding going on.
I charted every play because many high schools don’t do a good job — at least teams I have covered so far — of keeping track of player statistics.
I had Baker for 139 yards in that Sept. 6 game, quite a bit different from the rushing total given to the folks who wrote up online reports. I don't know where the number came from, but normally teams call in their own stats.
Padding the stats is nothing new in high school sports, but there’s no incentive for anyone to do that as far as Baker is concerned. He’s a great player, he already has a scholarship to attend Michigan State in the fall, and he is considered one of the top running backs not only in the state of Michigan, but also in the country.
So when I read that he had 400-plus yards in a 26-21 victory over Royal Oak on Sept. 26, I hoped that it was the Royal Oak people keeping the stats, because I’ve seen the Oak Park people in action and, I don’t know… I hope he gained every yard printed.

| Just read on Freep that Baker was invited to the Army All American game on Jan 3. What a shame to all the other more talented Michigan HS running backs out there. Baker isn't in the top 20 Michigan RBs, let alone a top national RB. We won't ever hear his name at MSU. Hope he does something with that educational opportunity. He'll need it, because football is not in his future.

| They are doing a disservice to Edwin, IMO, by ridulously padding his stats. Saw the same thing last year. Not to mention damaging the team's reputation and the coaches credibility.

| Thanx-I've been dropping into the forums once in a while, but not posting much this year. The wolves have some young starters this year, but they have talent and seem to be improving from game to game. Other than the past two games, we have had some thrillers ! Looking forward to two more coming up. Looks like the finale with LO will be huge again.
