This was a topic thread earlier this season, but I had to say it again. LO's freshman QB is the real deal. Sean Charrette is Tom brady cool when he's sitting in the pocket. The kid has a strong arm and just never gets rattled. The LO / IKE game he completed at least 4 passes on 3rd and longer than 10 for first downs. Very composed, already looks like a 4 yr player. Going to be very interesting watching him mature the next 4 years.

arm's weak, cant even throw more than 40 yards, whenever i watch hes underthrowing his receivers... but that will be perfected in the coming years

blue..you're correct. There's a tendency to annoint prematurely. Anyone worth there salt would readily conclude that LO's got some serious receivers that often compensate for poorly thrown passes. In fact there should have been an earlier score when Mikael Lott was wide open in the first half. Not taking anything away from the youngster, but let's not get carried away.

Perhaps I was a bit gracious in my praise, let me clarify. I don't think that he is a top QB in the state right now. However IMHO he will be by his JR or SR year. Chris Bell knows how to develope a QB and this kid has serious potential. For a 9th graders he has a strong arm. He has not thrown the deep pass yet, but he gets the ball where it needs to be quickly. His poise in the pocket is still impressive.

Worth their salt.....I don't know what that means.
Who are these serious receivers you speak of? Lott is decent, has good hands but average speed. And the rest of the WR's are usually the starting corner and safety playing spot duty at Wideout.

In lieu of your latest response, I believe that we're mostly on the same page. I'd agree that the youngster has great poise and potential for the future.

I have nothing but praise for what had developed before our very eyes. It is certainly unheard of for a frosh to step into a D1 program and manage accordingly.

I'd also agree that LO has become a haven for the great dropback passer in recent years (i.e. Chris Lum). However, any qb will tell you that his potential is directly aligned with his receiving corp's potential.

In recent weeks the defenses have become wise to the LO running game, having devised various packages to contain the threat. In recent years LO has prospered because of very good balance on the O-side (running & throwing).

There is certainly a reason as to why LO doesn't pass more than it does (not until it absolutely has to do so) and it has very little to do with the receiving corp.

Certainly you bore witness to the recent Adams game. I do believe that it was one of the receivers, Lott that made the difference in the 2nd half.

If LO is to continue their respective cadence onward to Ford Field, it is going to require more than poise on 3rd down rather delivery and execution will be required from the young qb on 1st and 2nd down as well.

Again, let's not get too carried away with the praise...that's all I'm saying. Unfortunately many of us OAA fans have "only" remaining thoughts about "promise, poise & potential" left to consider.

I spoke to several Troy Colt parents at their hard fought playoff game against Dakota and they commented on the fact that Bob Wunderlich (the Colts free safety) will most likely start for the team next year at QB. He is one of the teams best hitters and would be perfect for the high powered spread offense run at Troy. He would have played more this year but was injured in the preseason and then broke bones in both hands during the regular season. Look out for him next year as the Colts reload with a great group of returning Juniors.

Any discussion of young OAA QB's needs to include Farmington's Matthew Craven. Threw for over 1,400 yards this year as a sophomore leading Farmington to the MHSAA playoffs.

Very talented, however, so far, a little inconsistent. At times this year Matthew looked like an all-league QB. At other times he looked like a 2nd string JV QB.

Matthew has a strong arm, quick feet and many talented skill position guys in his class of 2011. I hope Matthew works hard in the off season to get bigger, faster, stronger and to also work on his QB skills. Needs to learn to avoid pressure, as opposed to moving towards it. He also needs work on looking off defenders and to be more consistent in his footwork.

I look forward to the 2009 season to see how Matthew and the Falcons work out!!

I don't think he ever looked like a 2nd string JV QB? He has area's that need to be improved, but I would like my chance's that he will make those's improvement's and look real good next year.

It is obvious that you are this boys father but the truth is that he is a good qb who has lots and I mean lots to learn. I hope he is getting good advice from his coaches because he will need to improve in all areas to reach a level equal to half the qbs in this league

1st I am not his father. Second being that he is only 15 he has youth on his side. But he did have a good year for being as you put it needing to learn so much. I'm not the only one who see's the potential of this soph. By the time he is 17 he will be 6'4- 6'5" and 200 lbs, not bad.

The LO kid is pretty good for a freshman. I would say that he's got some poise, helped rally the team back. From my perspective, he played at times like a future HOF. However, there were other times that he looked like JV grade. I mean on that second pick, he had #8 wide open down the field...in full view, and on the same side of his rollout. Everyone in the stands was like, WTF? He is obviously programmed to throw "only" where his coach tells him to throw.

In this case, I give Coach Bell credit when it comes to handling the young QB.

Yes, Charette tossed 3 TD's against Romeo, however, at one point in the 3rd quarter his passing stats were 1/7/82yd/1td/2int. Charette finished 4/12/146yd/3td/2int. The Lake Orion wideouts (Ney, Lott, Heath, Fleck) are absolutely outstanding.

My point here... Coach Bell sure can handle a young QB.
