| Last Saturday we had our first meeting for the spring 2009 season. It was good to see that both myself and Ray Long as well as 5 officials and 11 players were on hand.
Some of the items discussed for the season included length of games, neutral zone infractions, divisions, length of season and officiating.
Everything that was discussed will be finalized at our next meeting held on Feb. 21st @ 6:00pm at HARRY's Sports Bar on Rt. 5, North Haven.
Proposals: Game Time....(2) 28 min halves, with running time in the first half and NFL stoppages inside the 2 min warning in the second half. It was also proposed that we add a 3rd time out to the 1st half, however you must use 1 TO before the 2 min warning or you would lose it. (used at Nationals)
Neutral zone....The 1st option is to have no neutral zone, and if the defense crosses the L.O.S at any time it is encroachment (NO FREE PLAYS). The 2nd option is to have no neutral zone and the defense can get back. However if contact is made with an offensive player the play is blown dead The play would also be blown dead if the defender is unadvaded to the QB.
There will be 2 divisions (New Haven and Hartford) that will be divided by: 1. Proximity...you have the choice to play closest to you. 2. Preference...If a team requests a certain location (and there are open spots) you may play out of your area. ie:YOUNG GUNZ in New Haven or CHARGERS in Hartford
The reason for the 2 divisions is due to the lack of multiple quality fields in a neutral location. The unwillingness for certain teams to leave there city. The growth of the game in both locations as we can now have 20+ teams playing the same style with the same rules, for the best in awards and prizes.
As we expand in 2009 you will see that our new format will allow teams to play within there skill level and have a better chance at improving vs similar competition rather than playing against established powerhouse teams week in and week out.
At the end of the divisional season... we can have the top 3-4 teams from each play in a round robin tournament for additional prizes and bragging rights.
We hope that your participation in league meetings and here on the message board continues as we move forward in building one of the biggest and best 9-man leagues in the country.
Thanks
