Just seeing all those state tourney trips in the 80's and 90's made me think of all the sweet players on those teams. Who are your top 5 midway players of all time?

Here is my list

1. Randy Burkman..More of a legend than a player really
2. Zach Etter..People might say I'm bias, I say he's the best player I have ever played with.
3. Chad Burkman..Probably the most raw talent of any Midway player. Best trot ever too.
4. Chris Baso..Pretty much hit over .400 every year since he was 15. Not to mention the 4 homerun, 3 grand slam, 16 RBI performance against hunts. Has to be the best single game hitting performance.
5. Sparky Ashley..maybe not the numbers to merit this spot, but he was pretty much all or our favorite player back in the day. Sooo fast.

im sure you wanted my top 5 also so here it is
1 andy baso for puking while at bat
2 mike for 2 homers for my golden birthday puke get honorable mention for taking like 5 balls to the face that day
3 big joe because i believe all of his midway stories
4 albert for swinging a 36 inch mfn maple
5 this might sound bias to but i vote myself for 1000 percent contact percentage during my long midway career

crowbars up hahahahaha

Until somebody plays for 30 years and keeps the team going in the relatively down years to bridge the gap and then orgasnize and run fundraising George Baso will be the best.

Good topic though.

I can't go with anyone current because I think longevity is a factor.
In any order....
Randy Burkman aka Bibber- Hard to argue with someone that once hit 96mph and played "AA" ball not to mention one of the best fastball hitters I've seen.
George Baso- Hard to argue with the longevity, 30 plus years, solid pitcher and hitter and played multiple positions (catcher, pitcher, first, second, third & ss?). Also as Chris pointed out all the fundraising, coaching, field work, ETC he has done.
Brian Burkman aka Ringo- Sold hitter. It seems like he got better as he got older. He always seemed to have that perfect balance, always keeping his weight back. Also did a good job as coach and helping with the little league when it existed.
Dave Etter- Crafty. He liked to "bloop" it in, and also could hit the ball out of the park if he wanted to. Didn't have the best speed in the world but always seemed to track it down in centerfield. A winner and would do anything it'd take to do it.
Terry Burkman- Because he is my dad, and he had a pretty good knuckleball.
Honorable mention- Harv Burkman & Chad Burkman. Harv was noted for his "rockpile" shots. Chad hit some of the biggest bombs I've ever seen, one of the best hitters i've seen and was a great pitcher until he hurt his arm.
One thing I always remember about playing with Randy, George, Harv, Etter, Ringo was that they were good motivators they had a way of keeping you in the game and keeping it positive.
