thats what i thought. makes no sense we reward the league for not doing thier job. we as players and sponsors pay set fees which cover umpire fees. and when the league doesn't ensure the umps are at field they get the money back. if i were running the league i would send one ump to each field think of return they get at the next meeting. i say the home team should keep the money and use for thier team they are the ones who got shorted with only one umpire at a game. my team was told if you want umpires then change your gametime and of course we did and had no umpire for the first game and only one for the second showed up. the umpire told us he was not notified. but when i stopped by Ians game they had 2 umpires and all i heard Ian say to Gopher is i will show you the e-mail! when 2 teams made changes to the schedule and were told they would have umpires by making this change the league should get them umpires. just a thought why should the money go back to the league who is not providing what all these players have paid for and what sponsors have paid for. let the home team keep the remaining money and buy equipment or beer!

Aplus13, lets breakdown your point. Sponsors pay a $350.00 fee which is $10.9375 per game. The rest of the fees are paid by the players. $40.00 per player divided by 32 games would be $1.25 per game. As Chip said, after the one umpire is paid $72.00, $20.00 would be returned to the league who did ALL we could to get umpires there (at every field).
The league is NOT being rewarded. It's just a policy that we've always had. If you want to change it, have your manager bring it up at a meeting and we'll talk about it then.
First of all, this doesn't happen that often. If you had read the notice sent out (on this site)about the situation for this weekend, you would have known that Ian did attempt to get umpires to EVERY field.
Secondly, why should the home team be rewarded with $20 and the visitors get nothing? They had no control of the situation. So, even if you split that, that would be $10 per team to drink with and buy equipment.....hmmmm. Enjoy your sweatband and small glass of draft beer.

the point is the teams were asked to help out and move thier games and our team did like idiots . and we got fucked for helping. evewry team who said fuck it we are following the schedule had 2 umpires and no problems. and further more this is a smack board so everyone should checks thier shit at the door and let people talk SMACK. you put more time into figuring out how much it costs per game than my own post mattered to me. we should have a banquet and give out tampons!

You can talk all the smack you want but when you accuse the league of trying to or not trying to do something, you should know what you're talking about before you post. Do you really think that the league asked you guys to play at 9 and then intentionally NOT send an umpire? I don't think someone woke up this morning and said, "Hey, let's screw Aplus!"
By the way, it only took me a minute or so to figure out how much it cost per game. How much your post meant to you? Well, it must of meant something for you to take the time to say something.

i just want to thank ian and kevin for doing the best they can with their free time and ensuring we have our league every sunday because they dont have to they choose to. sometimes things will happen that are out of their control and instead of calling the league out suck it up and understand that things like this will happen and instead of calling the league out stand by your league officials and understand that people like ian and my boy kevin dolan dont want shit like this to happen and if they had any control over it it wouldnt happen. on a different note aplus i totally agree that your upset but lets stick by our president and secratery because they didnt want that to happen and they take time out of their busy schedule to ensure we play ball every sunday.

also i would like to say that club jokes and doorley only had 1 umpire and he did a fantastic job and called a great game. with our league being as big as it is usssa is so up and coming that stuff like this will happen but they do the best they can being short handed because every thing that has to do with softball in rhode island has usssa written all over it.

Thursday 9:18am: I get a call from Rick Sousa explaining to me he has a scheduling problem for Sunday and asking me the favor of seeing if anyone will move their games.
Thursday 12:00pm: I post the message asking managers to contact me if they are willing to move their game to 9:00am on Sunday. If they do this, there is a better chance of two umpires at every field. However, keeping games at 10:00am will result in fields having one umpire. I asked to be contacted by 4:00pm Friday.
APlus and Pub notify me of change of time. Several other teams contact me and stay at 10, knowing they may receive one umpire.
Friday 2:09pm: I talk to Rick Sousa for 7 minutes and 13 seconds. I explain to him one team moved their game and several others agreed to have one umpire. He thanked me for my efforts and asked me to send an email of which fields would move and which fields accepted one umpire.
Friday 2:19pm: I send the following email, per Rick's request:
Ravenwood - 9am aplus vs. pub
agreed to 1 umpire ccpark flat river
didn't hear from... club jogues foster - 4 games hunters - 4 games

PART 2 If we have two umpires, at $23 a game, the home team receives a check of $92 from the League to pay the umpires. The $92 comes from the money that was collected before the season (sponsorship fees and player fees). Those numbers are based on what it costs for the League to operate.
When we only pay one umpire $72, there is a remaining $20 as you so brilliantly outlined. That money comes back to the League so that Kevin, Jeff, and I can take Baxter out to dinner every other Friday. If we didn't get this $20 back we would have to pay for dinner out of our own pockets and that is ridiculous. Especially when we go to Capriccio's every time, we need your money.
If we didn't go to dinner, then the precious $20 would be returned to the League and deposited into the League account and sit there waiting to be spent on something that the League needs. Such as umpires, balls, trophies, or the small amount that we roll over into next year.
So far this year, I believe we have had 4 games with only one umpire. That has returned $80 into our dinner fund. Since this hasn't really been cutting it, I'm going to ask Rick to make sure Aplus only has one umpire the rest of the year. I figure this will give us another $180 the rest of the season.

Secondly Corky, OUR league officials do not draw pay for their hard work so where exactly do you see anyone getting rewarded for NOT doing their job as you put it? You following me so far?

I wish gopher woulda umpired our games vs A+ there would be a good chance that we'd only have 1 loss right now if that were the case. The guy in the field when we played made like 62 horrible calls and i think the guys from A+ can agree with that as well.... HE STUNK! But in his defense he was still skinnier than gopher.

Devlin... i got lucky and it started to rain, so i got out of having to go fishing with the lesbians. However i did proceed to go to the sportsmans, then after they closed that place we closed down harris... Drunk woke up the next morning to a text from stevens asking if i was drinking, i said im down he says my hangover intensified im out and i cant drink haha Rob raymond hits strike after strike. he cheats tho he said he was practicing at 6 am that morning. Great afternoon tho. Little guy... the joke was last year when harris played rochs i was walking out to right center and devlin was walking back in... and since i hadnt played you guys since " the little guy" started posting,( wanted to put a face with the name ) i proceeded to be a dick and said hey so you must be the little guy. in which he replies im definately not the little guy, he says look at the kid with his feet dangling off the bench thats the little guy not me. hhaah
So sunday afternoon i start to tell the story of how i felt like an asshole when i asked someone on rochs if they were the little guy and they got pissed and wouldnt u know it i was talking to devlin the guy i called little guy hahahaha

Ian a teammate of mine (Tucker) stopped in my office today and we chatted. he explained the errors of my way to me and explained how he had been in a similar situation years ago. i had already realized a few things and had planned to appoligize to you sunday in person and hopefully shake hands with no hard feelings. but i will issue my appoligy here so everyone can respect that i realized i was wrong or bash me for caving however they view i don't care. i am truly sorry Ian and i do appoligize to you for what was said. i would still like to chat sunday and appoligize to your face like a man and offer to buy you a beer and hopefully shake hands and put this behind us and move on to having fun again. you do a great job with dealing with people like me when they are pissed and with running the league and the website and i am sorry to have wasted your time with my shit. sorry it took so long but i was planning to wait till sunday to do it in person but my teammate made me think about it and i feel you deserve it in a public forum and in person. hope to see you sunday and good luck to your team on sunday.
