| I dont understand how this is fair to all the other teams the catfish won against in playoffs, as the player in question has played since the start of playoffs so if the devils get the win so should every other team they beat or even do redo games without the player, its not like they pulled some amazing player he has been on the team since the start

| "Rule 24. “Spirit of the Rule” - All rules have “loopholes”. It is the intention of GMFL Executive (led by the Umpire-In-Chief in all instances of rule interpretations) to provide a fair, honest and sportsmanlike environment for all its members. In the interest of good sportsmanship, teams are reminded that all “the spirit of the rule” judgments will prevail in cases involving conflicting rule interpretations. All decisions made by GMFL Executive will be final. Rules will then be revised at seasons end to better address the true ‘spirit’ of the rule to ensure future misinterpretations are minimized."
So in all fairness, he played 5 games with one rainout, which should count for a game played seeing as it was not re-scheduled, and he was present and intended to play that game.
For the spirit of this game and league, this ruling should be overturned as this shouldn't be detrimental to the league's character.
ie. noticing an unfamiliar girl playing for the reefers against the penguins last night?? the left fielder for the devils possibly wearing steel cleats??
Did we care? Nope, cuz that's not how it's intedended to be. If he is playing with steel cleats, then so be it, it doesn't make him hit two homeruns. The illegal girl playing, does it make them spank the Pens...nope, they did it as a team.
See where I am getting?
Since joining this league pre mid-season, this has been one of the funnest (yet serious), well run leagues I have ever played in. Don't let a technicality blemish this league.
For the record Herauf was 1-5, with 2 errors!
This from the Prez "Have a good remainder of the season and everyone remember that it is a beer league and our Spirit of the Game Rule."

| I must've missed the rule 3...
GREAT WESTERN GOODTIMERS MIXED FASTBALL LEAGUE BASIC RULES AND REGULATIONS
All Softball Canada/Saskatchewan rules apply except for our league rules as follows……..
1. Teams cannot have more than 9 active players in the game at any given time (benched players do not count as an active player). No more than 6 of these 9 players can be men. You cannot start a game with less than 8 players. Only in the following instances will less than 9 players on the playing field be acceptable:
1a) A game can begin with a minimum of 8 players, however, at least 2 of the 8 MUST be women. If a team is unable to field 9 players, a game may be started with 8 players with an automatic out for the missing player (man or woman) to be taken whenever that empty position comes up in the batting order.
1b) In the case of an injury to a woman, that position MUST be filled by another woman on the team roster. If no woman is present, then the position must be left vacant and an automatic out will be taken whenever her position comes up in the batting order. 1c) If one team has less than 8 players or cannot field at least 2 women, the game will be forfeited. The game will NOT be rescheduled and the team with enough players will be awarded the win. 1d) If both teams have less than 8 players or cannot field at least 2 women, the game will be forfeited. The games will NOT be rescheduled and there will be NO points awarded to either team. 2. There will be a maximum of 25 playing members permitted on each team’s roster. The roster submitted to the league must state name, address and phone number of each team member. No roster changes will be permitted after the May league (pre-tournament) meeting. Date to be determined. Teams MUST hand in players’ letters and FINAL team rosters at a league designated date. 2a) A default of all games (played after deadline) and a fine, to be determined by the executive, will be enforced upon teams that do not hand in their final roster by the designated date. 3. A player may only be eligible to play in playoff games if they have played in half (50%) of the scheduled league games (OR 33% of the games with a letter). A player must have entered the game and participated (field or an at bat) to count towards running playoff total. The player must let the executive know, in writing, of reasons for not being able to play for any length of time (i.e. injury, illness or work related). 3a) There is NO limit on players’ letters for injury reasons - these letters will be accepted throughout the season. However, each team is ONLY allowed 4 letters for work related reasons. 4. Teams must be at the playing field by 6:15p.m. - all scheduled games are to start by 6:30p.m. At the very latest, a game MUST start by 6:45p.m. or a default is awarded. 5. All league games will be scheduled for 7 complete innings (weather and darkness permitting). A complete game is defined as any scheduled game with 5 completed innings. All incomplete games will be rescheduled unless both teams agree to the final result of the incomplete game. 6. Each team will provide their own scorekeeper. The home team scorekeeper will be the official score. (Home team is indicated on the season schedule). 7. ORTHODOX pitching only. NO slingshot, windmill or sidearm pitches are allowed. An illegal pitch will be at the discretion of the umpire. An illegal pitch MUST be brought to the umps attention by the opposing team. 7a) A woman batter is allowed to ask the pitcher to make the pitch slower or faster. 8. A pitched ball must be at home plate prior to a base runner leaving his or her base OR the runner will be called out by the umpire for leading off the base. 9. A maximum of nine (9) runs to be scored per inning. Unlimited runs ONLY allowed in the 7th inning - OR - whatever inning is deemed to be the last inning of the game, as determined by the umpire. 10. Catcher and home plate umpire MUST wear a face mask and throat protector at all times. 11. If a batter is hit by a pitch they MUST take first base. NO exceptions. 12. Players ARE allowed to steal home. 13. Players are allowed to wear jewelry during league play and playoffs at own risk.
14. A rainout MAY be decided prior to game IF both team managers agree to reschedule the game AND are able to contact the scheduled umpires within a reasonable timeframe to notify them of the cancellation. 14b) If a rainout is NOT decided within a reasonable timeframe prior to game time, both teams MUST still show up at the diamonds where the rainout will then be decided by the umpire and team managers (majority rule). 15. If a team phones ahead of time and forfeit’s a game the other team can either reschedule OR take the win. The forfeiting team must contact the scheduled umpires within a reasonable timeframe or a $25 fine may be levied. 15b) There will be incremental fines of $50, $100 then (if a new team, performance bond will be forfeited for a third missed game) and an emergency executive meeting will be held league for any team that DOES NOT SHOW UP for a scheduled game. This rule does not apply to those games where a team forfeits as a result of not having enough players to field a team. 16. The league schedule co-ordinator is solely responsible for scheduling the dates of all rainout games. 17. Steel cleats and steel toes are NOT permitted plastic only. Pitchers are allowed to wear a steel toe, covered with leather. If the pitcher moves to another position, the cleat must be removed. 18. The Umpire-In-Chief and his/her assistant will be responsible for providing umpires for the games as designated by the Umpire-In-Chief. Failure to comply in providing designated umpires will result in a tiered fine system. It will be a $25 fine per umpire missing from your first game, if a second game is missed by the same team, it will then be $40 per umpire. When a 3rd game is missed, a $50 per umpire fine plus an emergency meeting of the executive to determine further action. 19. Schedule points: Win = 2 Tie = 1. No tie-breakers on scheduled games. The home teams must ensure that all game sheets used are submitted into the league mail box (in the shed) right after the games. 20. The league will provide teams with a score book and a basic allotment of fastballs. The home team must provide an adequate playing ball to start each game. The condition of the ball to be approved by the home plate umpire. 21. Player conduct is the responsibility of the team. If a team cannot control players, the league will temporarily suspend players or the whole team, with a final ruling to be made by the league executive and governing body at its earliest convenience. 22. NO ALCOHOL allowed on the playing field. Umpire may ask the player to remove the beverage from the field of play. 23. All players must be 19 years of age. Proof of age may be required if contested by any team. 24. Rules will then be revised at seasons end to better address the true ‘spirit’ of the rule to ensure future misinterpretations are minimized. 25. The Annual General Meeting (AGM), held after the end of the season, should have two liaisons/representatives present from each team. The General League meetings should have one liaison/representative (executive excluded) in attendance. Failure to comply will result in a $50 fine to that team.
THE LEAGUE TRUSTS IN THE DISCRETION OF ITS TEAM MEMBERS TO USE GOOD JUDGMENT AND NOT TO CREATE SITUATIONS THAT COULD CAUSE INJURY!! www.leaguelineup.com/gmfl

| And as long as the RULES are straight and on the up and up, and the protest was done in the correct way. Then we will live with the decision that the President (and in this case the Scheduler/VP) makes.
But to protest a player in a game AFTER the game is complete is not the correct way to go about it. The proper procedure is...
Whenever a manager protests a game because of alleged misapplication of the rules, the protest will not be recognized unless the umpires are notified at the time the play under protest occurs and before the next pitch is made or a runner is retired"
This from Softball Canada Rulebook. Jamie batted 4 or 5 times and nothing was said before any of his at bats, and you cannot protest a game AFTER it is over. Hence the rule.
So if your league abides by softball canada rules, other than the amendments made by your league executive (which state nothing about protesting games), then this protest should not stand, and will have to be brought up at the league meeting at season's end, according to rule #24.
I am just saying....:)

| Okay here is something to look at as well, right on the website there are excell atachments of players and rosters. So it seems simple the players on it are good to go. So in turn if there was a problem and a player should be on it maybe, I would hope that the coack or manager would get it straightened out. Hence this would not have happened then. My opion you should have checked the roster first before you play anyone, so the onus is on the team rep.

| And on the team page, where it lists players that have letters, Jamie Herauf is listed as having a letter. So it may have been an oversight and he was listed on the "official" roster word document. Mistakes do happen.

| So like I said the onus is on sorry coach to make sure that it was straightened out, I just wanted to show it's not the league's fault that your team didn't have the roster straight. You played a play that wasn't on this list of approved players. I am not trying to stir anything up just looking at it as it is more fault of the team then the league. That's all

| I agree, but Marwin was on the understanding that he had enough games and that is why he is listed on the webpage as having a letter, (when a player gets a letter it must be understood between the coach and the commish that the player has 33% of the game eligibility met, Marwin just doesn't update the webpage on his own! No??), that is why the sheets are coming to the game tonight, as they have a meeting before the game to verify if he had enough or not. The onus is fully completely on Marwin, and he takes full responsibility for the mistake, if it results in one.
Let's just hope that it's sorted out in a typical adult manner and by the rules, etc. etc.
