Alrighty its week #9 !! Time for the annual Sashabaw showdown !! Lake O vs Clarkston. Looking forward to everyone's take.........

From what I have seen and read, these two teams are very comparable on offense. Both can move the ball on the ground and through the air. Both have experienced players at the skill positions and big strong offensive lineman that can move the pile. Both of these offenses have consistently proven that they can score quickly and often.

I think the defensive side of the ball is where the differences will be noticeable. Lake Orion is going to need a herculean effort from their front 4 on defense to win this one. They are not going to win if they allow the Clarkston QB the time to pick out the open receivers. I've been somewhat negative on Orion's secondary this year, I think they are very vulnerable at that position. Luckily for LO, opposing teams QB's have not really went after them too often. That will not be the case this Friday. They will get tested early and often. Clarkston's defense has been very solid this year, both against the run and the pass as well. Only allowing 12 points per game the Wolves have proven to be extremely stingy on the defensive side of the ball.

This game has always been extremely hard fought and competitive. Both teams will be prepared and ready for their opponent. Because of the vulnerabilities on the Lake Orion's D, I think Clarkston wins this game. Perhaps, and I hate to say it, Clarkston may win this one easily.

At the very least I will finally get my most pressing question answered..... just how good is this Lake Orion secondary.

Clarkston 34 Lake Orion 20

and for the Lake Orion fans, losing to Clarkston this week would not be the end of the world. The last three times these two teams met in the playoffs, the loser of the regular season finale won the rematch in the district final !!

Just an FYI...

Sashabaw Road starts at Dixie Highway in Waterford and ends at Granger Road in Ortonville, it never enters Orion Township or Lake Orion for that matter.

Clarkston Road will take you from Clarkston High to Lake Orion High... just right on to M-24 then a quick left on Stadium in Lake Orion.

BTW, this game will be the exact opposite of Adams @ LO. Whereas in Adams @ LO, both offenses were facing the best defense they had seen all year, this time it will be the LO & Clarkston defenses facing the best offense they have both seen all year.

Lake Orion 34, Clarkston 27 b/c LO is playing so well right now that I won't pick against them until they give me a reason to. (Although Jake has a valid point about the secondary)

The whole "bad secondary" thing is overblown. It was one kid getting burned repeatedly in the first game that essentially lost them the game.. he had since been replaced although back in the starting lineup vs Adams (which was a bit puzzling).

This will be the best Offense that LO has faced all year. But I can't bet against LO's offense. No one has really stopped it. LO by 10

This game is a U pickem. It will be one heck of a game. Seeing Lake Orion recently they have a great offense with a lot of weapons and a defense that gets the job done. Adams was able to run on them will Clarkston be able to do so? If Clarkston can run on the Dragons and pass when necessary the Dragons are beatable. Clarkston also has multiple weapons on their offense running and passing and their defense appeasrs to be better than years past. Whoever has the best defense, in this game, wins this one. Neither team has a real advantange going into this contest .... so it will come down whos hot, who executes the best, who commits the least turn overs, and who comes in with the best game plan. Looking at the over all picture I see several OAA teams going into the playoffs with some solid teams built to go a long way in the playoffs.

This is a huge game, especially to the players and fans. In reality, 2009 Week 9 Lake Orion at Clarkston is merely a feel-each-other-out, tune up, for what will come the following week(s)... that is what will tell the story.

I was going to say Lake Orion but this weather is nasty... still, I have Orion in this one by a td and 2pt conversion.

This rain takes me back to the week 1 monsoon that saw C'town drop Adams 6-3 in a turnover filled game. I was at Stoney Creek and Athens that night (Athens won 17-7). At least it was 70 degrees... tonight it'll be borderline snow.

Stay warm ~

OAAscouts, luckily the rain is moving out and all that should fall during the game is drizzle or occasional light showers...nothing that should change the game too much.

Clarkston 7-0
Clarkston 14-0
Clarkston 21-0
Clarkston 21-6
Clarkston 28-6
Clarkston 28-13
Clarkston 35-13
Clarkston 42 - 13

I'm not going to make any excuses...tonight, Clarkston was the better team for the entire 48 minutes. Our defense got exposed by Dakota Bender and Tyler Scarlett, and our offense could never really get going. We had a shot to make it 21-13 in the 3rd but Dan Ney missed a potentially huge catch, and that really summed up the whole night for the Lake Orion offense...missed opportunities. As for the defense, they had basically one stop when we needed it (after we made it 21-6) but other than that, they parted like the red sea. Got completely dominated by the semi-option Clarkston ran and really never showed any signs of stopping Scarlett, Bender, and the rest of the offense.

Could not help but feel like Lake Orion got a little cocky tonight. I heard before the game that they only watched film of Clarkston once or twice...and if they did that obviously cost them.

Anyways...Pontiac loses so my money is on Lake Orion getting a rematch with Clarkston next week. My feeling is that next week's game will be closer, but Clarkston will still win because they were flat out the better team tonight.

Anything Lake Orion does at this point is a bonus IMO...because they definitely have the look of a team that will get bounced in the first round this year.

Pretty much what I expected from the Clarkston offense vs the Lake Orion defense. Kind of surprised though that the LO offense looked so lethargic. Two weeks in a row they've had trouble getting the running game going. Not sure what LO can do differently on defense. That side of the ball has concerned me all year.

With that said.......The rematch next week should be very interesting. It's been mentioned before that the loser of the season finale between these two programs has avenged that loss in the playoffs many times. I'm sure Bell and Tooley will have the Dragons ready and much more prepared. Post season play is a whole different animal !!!

Yes ....qualifiers go into the playoffs 0-0. Clean slate, fresh start.

Normally I would say in a relatively close match a REPEAT GAME is dangerous but Clarkston man handled Lake Orion. Clearly Clarkston is the better team and repeat match would probably yield the SAME results plus or minus a touchdown or 2.

I hope they split these teams up this year sending 1 west and the other east in the play offs. That would work out better for the Dragons and the OAA.

In 2006 LO dominated everybody and beat Clarkston (at Clarkston) 32-8 and two weeks later lost (at home) 34-14. It can happen. Orion did not any jet sweeps (weather?) the receivers were dropping a lot of good passes. The punt and kickoff receiving teams (normally great) either muffed or let them fly over them. The d made a couple of big stops early but they spent way too much time on the field and they usually had their backs to the wall. Thay can still be dangerous
