I motion that my pinch runners should not have to wait for me to reach first base before taking over. Have the runner stand 5 feet behind me and run on contact. I will lead the league in triples this year.

Other Stevens related rule changes: 1) losing coach in Stevens games has to wash Stevens post game underwear. 2) New Stat: A Stevens Triple : 3 distinct thick muddy skids in one pair of shorts. I have seen this. Stevens should post this picture. I expect league leaders in Stevens Triples to be Hodde, Stevens, Dionne, and Jackson.

I want to thank those that voted allowing the A Plus split, it was just a difference of opinion as to how to compete and certain guys wanted to stay together.
I want everyone to know I am not running this team, nor am I bringing any of my players to this team, not that I could because we have no exemptions.
We weren't comfortable using our exemptions or pick ups on non softball players.
This is sunday softball and is suppossed to be fun and relaxing, not filled with drama.
Good Luck to everyone this year

Tuck,
Thanks for the kind words but it's kinda fucked up. Just saying, that's all. In your words, it's supposed to be fun and relaxing. Not exactly what you said when talked on the phone last night. We have been friends for 20 years and we just get whamboozled like this. You said it was a team vote and nobody even discussed it with the entire team. The founding members of the team just got completely blind sided with this. I'm not pissed off. I just feel that it was the wrong way to go about it than this.

suggestion:
1) Change name to team disfunction
2) When you find a good guy to run the team, let
him stick around for awhile
3a) Make sure that your team agenda is the same.
b) if you want to win and be competitive or
just have fun and get out of the house
4)Finally, why the fuck would you get rid of Gopher, after he led your team to the playoffs, through years of basement dwelling

Slezak, if you think that the reson we got to the playoffs was Norman Brodeur, you are mistaken. It was a team effort. Unfortunately, some people weren't team minded and decided to leave. Don't worry, we will be just fine and having fun on Sunday mornings no matter what. I just wish somebody would have called myself and other members of the team instead of finding out like this.

also Tuck the difference of opinion is that Rick or yoursaelf never even approached A-Plus and had any discussions. you just went to the first meeting and convinced the league to allow mutiny and work around the exemption status of players to form a new team. i feel bad for anyone on the waiting list for a new team as they are the ones who really got screwed. and also how the league voted to screw a paying sponsor and allow the mutiny to get the seniority and field selection.

and the answer to Sleziak's question. why get rid of Gopher. Rick Leaman running his mouth saying these guys wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for me. and Rick Leaman wanting to run the team which A-Plus agreed to do! my mistake for listening to Rick Leaman. Gopher has been a friend for a long time and will continue to be a friend. and we also work together so we have no hard feelings. good thing it is sunday morning softball and all the guys who were too good to play with A-Plus are out signing those million dollar contracts seeing they are all-stars. and they chose to follow Rick Leaman who even asked A-Plus to sponsor his basketball team in the off season and A-Plus did.i guess that shows what kind of a person Leaman really is. especially considering he won't even return a phone call. hey Gopher sorry!

ok I don't know the inner dynamics of A-Plus softball. I assumed Gopher was the team rep. Whatever. Point is a few years ago we put a rule in place to prevent just anyone from showing up to make requests. The Ultra II was banned midseason because Ricky Reynolds showed up one night and asked for a vote and he was the deciding vote because Joey Ash wasn't there and Ricky went in his place. Joe was the team rep and had previously voted against the ban.

i am told by Rick Leaman it was not him who caused all of this. he has also said we are keeping the team together. and that Tucker is the man behind the mess. apparently Tucker is telling players they will be sat so others can play. when truth be told when Rick asked me if there would be any problem with him adding a few new guys that he plays with in other leagues my answer was sure run the team the way you want so we win. i guess Tucker wanted to build an instant team rather than fulfilling his exempotion status and having to build a team like everyone else has done in this league. year by year. we shall see at mondays meeting. i still feel the league needs to review the new divorce rule before adding to the by-laws as the players with seniority should retain thier seniority in the league. not the majority who want to leave. if they want to leave let them leave but they are owed nothing to take with them from the players who have been on a team for years as they deserve to keep thier seniority. i hope others who agree with me will be present at mondays meeting to back me up and get a real vote seeing none of us even knew these changes were on the agenda to be voted on.

Sorry guys on A plus, but I am partial as Gopher is a good friend of mine but no one, not matter how much they may or may not like how he handled the team can dispute his results. He made A plus a winner and Rick is a good egg. Not so sure we all can know the full story so I will not comment but knowing the character of Rick and Gopher I would say it is out of line to talk smack on here about either one of them. Erinie i am not bad mouthing Gopher. the guy who did that ever week is Tucker complaining about the coaching he was doing. and he was told then say something and his answer was its not my place it is your team you do something. and Rick was the guy who said to me we don't need gopher the guys came with me. i asked gopher to keep the team together in fall and he didn't. so Rick said we dont need him and i offered Rick to run the team. which he appeared to be doing seeing he was stopping by my office to pick up the raffle tickets for guys to sell and distributing them. as early as a week before the mutiny came out he was still telling me he was getting guys thier tickets. he allso asked me to sponsor his basketball team and said it is the A-Plus guys we will be playing with and they would appreciate the help. so i did. the 2 guys who ousted Gopher are now the 2 guys blaming me! Gopher is my friend too and this softball shit never changed that. the behind the back shit with Rick and Tucker does piss me off. be a man and talk to me don't wait till the first meeting to go behind my back while you have been asking for money to sponsor your basketball team and tell me you are selling raffle tickets and that the guys are selling them and we are getting ready for the season. don't come in my office and pick out the bats you want for the team for this year if you are scheming with Tucker to split the team. be a man and say hey we want to leave to my face! and Tucker you should listen to the voicemail you left your friend Mark telling him hey just a heads up something is going down and you guys need to know about it 2 days after you already did it.

First I think I should clarify my first post. Upon further review I actually feel bad I posted and my intent was not to point out eric. My feeling is he was caught in the middle, so eric i'm sorry. I do think it sucks the way it went down, especially with the seniority thing. Now unfortunately there is not going to be a good outcome to this, it could potentially have a crippling domino effect. Everyone is a grown man here, so deal with the issue face to face, not by airing dirty laundry on the web for all to see. Seperation seems like the only solution, so try to find a fair way to deal with, for both parties, don't make the league and it's players suffer. My first objective to the post was to stick up for Gopher. Say what you will about him, say he is fat, slow, whatever...that's all true, but things you can't deny him are that he is a good friend, a good coach, and a great evaluator of talent, which is evident by his Atwood softball team. Each team needs to define their goals and make them clear, do we want to win and be competitive? Or do we want to be a group of friends and have fun on Sundays? Make it clear to all members of the team. I can tell you Gopher wants to win, and will put his best team available to win. Hopefully this big pile of shit gets resolved the right way for both sides of the A plus team

This will be my last post before Mondays meeting, but I wanted to clarify some things before then.
I found out 6 hrs before the meeting that we may be able to split, so unfortunately I asked Rick to go and unfortunately, I put Rick in a bad spot and I have apologized to him, he has taken a lot of crap for the last 2 days that wasn't his fault.
I was out of town til Wed and when I got back I had a lot of work to catch up on, it snowed and I didn't have time to go to APLUS to talk to Eric in person, so I called Mark Wed night and he didn't call me back until Thursday night.
Someone is obviously lying about a few things and I will let my track record speak for itself.
Enough people in Coventry know me well enough to decide.

Checking in: A: Gopher is a valuable member of any team that he is associated. From the outside it seems to be Norman was instrumental in turning APLUS from a bottom half team to a playoff team. B: I dont think Tucker was the driving force the fracture of APLUS. APLUS was breaking a[art last fall. I witnessed Eric " fire " Gopher. At CLUB Jogues. Tucker has sponsored and run many teams for many years. He doesnt need the extra headache. My guess is that he was approached to help with APLUS splitters because ..well because he can. And APLUS management allegedly has a different philosphy about how they want to run their team..different than some of their better players philosophy. Lastly, I dont agree that ERIC and the remaining APLUS guys lose their field and their seniority. Its nonsensical. If Eric wants to remain in the league then he still has all that he has earned to date. see you tomorrow night

Gopher and Rick deserve a good portion of credit for the amount of talent that was brought in to the Aplus team. The goals were to be competitive and win. Which is what the team did. There were things that occurred in the playoffs that didn't make much sense and resulted in the team falling flat on their faces. The "firing" of Gopher seemed a little extreme. I think discussions and team meetings could have fixed and fine tuned those issues. But never occurred. Then at some point during the off season a decision was made to bring in more people. Some that would help the team, and i'm sure some that wouldn't. There was talk of rotating and sitting a good portion of the team. In my opinion it was pure disrespect to the pieces that were brought in to help Aplus win last summer. The sponsor talks about respect and fulfilling obligations by the exempt players, but they aren't speaking of respect or obligation to the non-exempt players that came to this team. People that gave up playing for their other teams in other leagues for a year, following Gopher and Rick to Aplus to establish a solid core group of guys in one of the more competitive leagues in this state. These pieces followed Gopher and Rick, not Aplus.
When they started talking about sitting more of the people who helped them start achieving their goals, they crossed the line of disrespect. They seem to forget that respect is a two way street. You give it, you get it. And it all started with disrespecting one of the guys that brought you a long way in a short amount of time. That shows to character. Funny, the guy that trashed the league pres all over the board last year and destroys guys on his team on the board speaks of character.

Yeah, they're losing their exempt players. But last I looked, Aplus didn't have 12 exempt players on the roster. Losing 12 guys has got to speak volumes and tell the bigger story. What they are doing to Rick on here and behind the scenes is bush. Give them their seniority, but they have zero integrity.

i know i said it was my last post before the meeting but i have decided not to bother attending the meeting or continuing to sponsor a team in this league. after calming down and reflecting why would i want to continue to invest money in a team and sponsorship in this league when they changed all the exempt rules for Tucker and were willing to strip a sponsor and player of thier seniority without them even being present. yes Gopher does deserve credit and he was fired based on Tucker bitching about him and Rick saying we don't need him. and yes team talks would have helped but Tucker and Rick have proven that doesn't happen. they don't inform me prior to or after the meeting takes place. and to further clear things up the only players that were to be added tot he roster were 2 more of Rick's friends who played fall ball with A-plus. and Tucker you bring up Dan Giroux and playing time he is out for the season and requires shoulder surgery from a skiiing accident. but you wouldn't know that because you never talked to A-Plus you just went mutiny and threw Rick's head up for the blame. as for respect i liked the guys who were added and do respect them and would sit out every game for them to be out there winning and sat alot last year so we could win and never bitched. the only thing i can hope is the guys who did sell tickets for the A-plus team will return the tickets and money so the drawing can be held as people did purchase tickets and i will be doing a drawing. winners will be paid and if there is any extra money it will be donated to make a wish foundation as there is no longer an A-plus team. i hope you guys have fun on sunday morning as that is what it should be. Here is my 1 post on this whole thing.

Last year I got a chance to coach/manage a team for A-plus. I went out and got some good guys to play together…key word. No superstars just together. I worked with Rick to get some of his buddy’s he played with part time at clegg and some other guy’s in the league and also, some of A-plus player’s from the previous year… things were good.

We won last year because WE PLAYED TOGETHER…Period
Everyone on that team “ drank the cool-aid” sort of speak
No promise’s, just that we were building a team for the next few years in hope of keeping a team together and progress as we grew and I feel bad to all the guys on the team that I made promise’s to and I’m not able to honor my word and for that I apologize.
It’s easy to win when there is Great chemistry and Great players, I proved that with the Golden Gophers...Look at the Botelho/Sandy Bottom team? They are a perfect example of a group of guys with a lot of talent ….all Indians with 1chief!!!! Which equals 2 championships in the last 3 years?
You may not like what the “chief says” but that how it works. When to many people start to think they can do a better job that when there always seems to be issue.

If you think it’s easy to run a team…have at it!!

We as the Manager/Coach don’t just show up and make a line up…we need to make sure guys are there, fields are ready, guys are happy, stats done, umpire’s paid, meeting with Smitty(my favorite part) and who says he sucks and he stinks and I’m better why am I not playing …BLA BLA BLA!!!! ETC

You want that job, have fun

A-plus for some reason was not happy with me at the end of last season( why I can’t honestly tell you) so I was asked not to return as a coach.

As for my Friendship with Rick, Eric, & Tucker…It is what it is. I have no hard feeling with any of them nor will I.

I have been fortunate to meet & play with some great guys in this league over the last few years and that’s how I plan on keeping it.

Love Always,

GOPHER

I understand that teams split up but i don't agree on the fact that if a team splits the exempt players go where they want. Last year Hinske was handcuffed to Crowe and nobody wanted to hear anything about it, so should he have tried to split the crowe team and form his own team? I also believe that whenever anything that affects the league as a whole it should be posted on the website and put on the agenda for the meeting prior to voting so people can show up and voice their opinions. I personally like all the guys involved but it stinks of something being shady the way the whole thing was handled and voted on without letting anyone know.

After close diagnosis of this picture, I see three problems...

1) Gopher can not push the line machine because his belly jiggles with each footstep which pushs the machine with the fields crown. Resulting in that abortion.
2) Gopher made odd footprints, like in quicksand at the start of the line, my guess is he was knee deep.
3) The very bottom of the photo looks like soupy mess, much like the one's in Steven's drawers

I am just getting warmed up. When winter hits I detach from softball and don't even lurk on the site. My equipment bag is exactly where I left it when I left the field last, in my trunk possibly with a dirty uniform stil in it.

And for all you jerks against safety bags. Try playing 1st when Hinske or fat Ernie are chugging down the line at full tilt to beat out a grounder. See how you like getting caught in that train wreck.

It was determined that it was up to each team as to whether they buy one or not, Ryno and lb4lb I agree and I will suggest our coach buy one, maybe one by one you can convince each team to do so.
It really is a safety issue and that train wreck named Ernie,EW, Dutilly's bitch, Gopher's idol would hurt somebody if there were a collision at first and I wouldn't want to be that guy.

Aren't safety bags a U-trip requirement anyway?

I don't think they are a requirement but it makes sense to have the safety bags considering we chose a ball that wasn't as lively to protect pitchers and the infielders a little better because there are not many good infields in Coventry, that is not a complaint just stating the obvious.
We ordered the safety bag today, see Ryno, someone listens.

Tucker makes things happens. I am a better man for having played fall ball with JT. I would like a safety bag at second also. Sleezak would agree. That way he can slide left while i throw right and not knock him out...

I'm not sure I really understand the argument against safety bags... I know I'm polish and not that smart, but seems like a no-brainer anywho. I'm not sure there is a single first baseman in the world that would argue against it. Not that my opinion counts for much or anybody gives a shit, I'm with ryno and lb4lb.

i bought the safety bag last year and had just as many if not more problems with it then without it. i think when the first baseman steps on the white it raises the orange side so alot of people do flips over the bag , or trip over it , i was surprised with the problems we had with it, cause i felt the same way you all are talking. just my experience with the safety bag

So let me get this straight...

You guys voted to go to with Worth (aka wet sock) balls instead of Trump balls yet a safety bag is discretionary? Which most likely means nobody will cough up an extra 150.00 to buy real bases....

Sounds contradicting if you are attempting to put safety first. The safety bags should be mandatory.....especially in a rec league.

Sec. 7. THE BASES other than the home plate shall be 15 inches square and not more
than 3 inches high. They shall be made of canvas bags, plastic or other suitable materials
filled with soft padding. They shall be WHITE, RED or ORANGE in color. All BASES must
be securely fastened at their designated places.
NOTE:A safety base is optional. The safety base shall be 15 inches by 30 inches and not
more than 3 inches high. The safety base should be positioned such that the white portion is
located where first base would normally be (in fair territory) and the colored portion (red or
orange) should be in foul territory. Any batted ball hitting the white portion should be fair
and any ball hitting the red or orange portion should be foul. On the initial throw to first base
from the infield or outfield, the batter-runner MUST TOUCH the red or orange portion of
the base but not the white. If legally appealed by the defense, the runner will be called out.
The defensive player MUST always touch the white portion. This rule is in effect only on
the initial play at first base. This does not include:
1. Returning to the base after over running,
2. Running on a base hit to the outfield (runner may touch the red or white
part) or
3. Re-tag to advance on a fly ball.
EFFECT: If the base runner uses the orange portion at any time after the first attempt at first
base and is not in contact with the white portion, then he is considered off the base.

I'm sorry guvna, that wasn't intended as a response to your post. More of an FYI for everyone that it isn't necessarily a USSSA rule, but an option.

That being said, I haven't played in a league in the last ten years that hasn't had it. I was surprised Coventry didn't.

It just makes too much sense to me to have it. Captains roll the cost of new bases into their teams fees/jerseys/etc... One time cost.

Safety bags are really a great idea and I'm glad to hear they were ordered.I for one am not looking for any collisions with a Ryno. The only downer is going to be when an umpire calls someone out for hitting the wrong bag at the wrong time. Pitchers that actually cover first base should also be happy to hear this.
