We have the O.K. to start a fall league in Johnston city this year. 250 down each line and 280 in center but it is a good infield! Anyone interested leave a post with your name and number. Just trying to see if there are enough interested teams!!

We're not trying to steal teams. We could have it on different nights as the Marion league. The JC field is MUCH better than Marion. It's very solid so you usually get a true hop! John and Dan have done a great job running the league since they've started it. But I personaly am sick of playing on those infields and it doesn't look like the Marion Park District is going to do anything about it! This is just an idea we were presented with and we thought we would see if we could get enough teams. We would use ASA rules ASA, NSA bat list!

Fisch, if the fields are that small, look into getting league balls. Get the 52/275 balls. I would really think about that. If you play on that size field with decent balls and a 280 CF, pitchers are gonna get pelted cause it'll be real hard to keep a ball in that park.

i really hope u get a lot of interest and teams to make this happen.

i realize the easiest way to set up the league and minimize investment for teams is to stay with asa rules/balls. and opening it up to nsa bats doesnt hurt anything. but with the small fields i would love to see metal bats only. or you could use singlewalls only or God forbid a wood bat league...ok, maybe not wood bats.
or you could even go to a softer type of ball like a crappy cork center or a 40/325 ? make it fun and try utrip pitching?
check with the coaches to see what it would take for them to come to JC and play. just something different may be enough.
those are just a couple ideas to drum up some interest cause i will play in your league if you get it going.

good luck, its nice to see someone doing something positive instead of complaining on this message board.

How's the lighting at jc diamond?
I like the utrip pitching idea.
250 down the lines & 280 to center-
NO Need for nsa bats.
I would like to see this work. I'm IN!

the bat list will be ASA bats only. We would make it non composite bats but theres not a lot of guys who still have those single walls or allumimum bats, Im sure there around but we dont want to have a league where people have to go buy bats just to play. The games will be played on a different night than the marion league and no Danny Gwaltney is NOT running this league. The field is small but we have had a few tournaments out here and believe it or not there has not been a home run show. I think we could make this happen and be a fun league. We need to know how many teams are interested so we can get things moving.

I pitch and play in the A division in marion and i dont see a lot of middle shots yeah they happen and some people try to buzz the pitcher but if you go to the mound to pitch you better have your glove ready the same goes for 3rd,2nd, 1st and any other position on the field. We will probably use a lower compression ball or something like that.

Pull shots are 250 in JC verse 275 in Marion. Most guys natural power is pull and that's where they will catch the most flyers. If guys are trying to keep from hitting HR's on a 250 field, they're
gonna try to stay away from those short fences, thus the 280 to center.

Even guys who play a lot and even are good enough to play good weekend ball can miss when trying to hit it to the right of the SS and hit it near the pitcher.

If it were possible to either change the balls or bats to where you have to shit on a ball to put it out, then that'd be a great way to keep people from putting the ball anywhere near the middle.

just my opinion.

All good ideas. No one wants to see the pitcher get hurt, unless you're Ohney, so maybe we could make the HR limit more than usual. But I'm with Shillito. I haven't seen that many HR's hit in the tourneys we've had. No more than you see in Marion. If we have enough interest, we will hold a meeting and hear all ideas! Spread the word!

this league will probably be $300. We have to get some more info from the board to set the price.
