Gators scored first in the 5th, added 1 on in the 7th, but then gave up 3 in the 8th before scoring the game tying and winning run in the 9th.
I hate calling out umpires - but the strike zone was one of the worst we had all year.

You state: "scoring 2 runs with 2 outs and nobody on."
How does a team score 2 runs if they have no one on base at the time? Can you provide just a little more detail as to how the two runs were pushed across for the walk off?
It sounds like it was a good game to watch.

That sentence probably means just how it sounds...they were down to their last out (hence 2 outs) and nobody on before they started their 2 run rally.

Anyway, he loves strikes. What's wrong with that? No one wants to play a 3-hour game. If you can hit it, it's a strike!
I have to back George on this one. Too many hitters in this league think the strike zone should be the size of a Campbell Soup can.
Stop whining and swing the bat.

All you ask for is consistency. I don't care if you call 8" off the plate. Just do it every time.
Hustle, call the game to the best of your ability, and if players or coaches approach the umpire "in an appropriate way," give them the same respect.

| Balls and Strikes..how many times have we all justifiably complained about this many times!
My take is umpires are so glued to their "red manual" umpire hand book.
This dicates all the little nuances they are suppose to do, how they run, where they run to, the way calls should be made, taking the mask off with the left hand, their little signals to each other when working two man crews, how loud they are and a ton of stuff that baseball people would never even dream off much less expect from umpires.
They are expected to follow all this junk to the letter!
Yet two very simple things they rarely if ever follow are clearly stated in the rules: The strike zone and the balk rule.
Good luck getting an umpire to call a balk any more unless they want to end the game on a balk call and run off the field like Stillwater vs Tonka a few years back.
What is a ball and what is a strike is clearly defined in the rules yet so many umpires leave their strike zones up to their own interpretation and most of them are not good enough to do this nor do they "get it" enough to even think they could do this.
Umpires call balls and strikes at their own discretion. They make a mistake early and they can't admit it so the zone stays dog shit the rest of the game......they call balls and strikes too early....they change the zone late in the game for who knows why....
Umpires have a way of trying to be seen and balls and strikes is their power point. They are non arguable calls, they know this and they will purposely maintain control of a poorly established strike zone so everyone knows who is in control......this hold true with especially the umpires who are out their to be seen!
Sad thing is amateur baseball is exactly what it is and the only person getting paid is the only one no one comes to see.
If an umpire did a good job then no one would normally even remember who worked the game!

This is absolutely the wrong time to be complaining about umpires!!! You know many of them read this, they just don't reply. It's not to hard to figure our who most of you (us) are and who we play for. I'm quite certain I wasn't the first guy to get banged on a bad call and I know I won't be the last.
For the most part, give me a guy who will hustle, a guy who's willing to admit he missed a call (but should NEVER make one up as it will confuse everyone), and a guy who won't get into a "discussion" with a player on a call. They should stand their ground, but don't have a debate.
I'm not going to say I've never bitched, been run, or thrown a glass of water on an umpire, but it's normally two against twenty and when tempers flare I'd bet they'd say $100 isn't worth their time.
I know personally I don't have the self-control to umpire.

| I'm not saying umpiring - or if you play for the Metro Knights "officiating" - is easy but for the amount of money they make per game, they should be doing a better job. Just the little things like paying attention on a check swing so you're not caught off guard when they appeal. How hard is it to watch for a runner leaving early when tagging? Is their an ump in amateur ball that knows what a balk is? These guys get $80 for playoff games for crying out loud!!!!

| So Pub is obviously in...Gators in?
Who else? Angels I presume perhaps.
See yet again to continue my crap line bashing. Does the Crap Line understand what it is like to be a good club.
Teams like Park, Tonka, Pub, Angles, Edge, Gators/Wesley, Edge.....that is like half the tourney field 9/10 years for the past however many years.
Throw in clubs like Bloomington, Hopkins a few times, and other Park National teams and you have the type of teams that are atleast good enough most years to have at least a sniff of making the tourney.
I know I know....now some clown with his doneky buddies are going to come on here and talk crap line this and crap line that and then.....oh wait a minute....
....I will just respond with facts!
I predict a St Paul sweep in the one side of the bracket and Tonka, Park and Pub from the other side.
Although the three PN and RV teams that don't make final three from their side could easily twist it all around.
Bloomington is young and more then decent. You can't count out Wesly and if a team like the Angles are in they have been pretty much in the mix for the last 20 years.
Final prediction: No skyline team will even win a state tourney game and non of them will make it to the final six if they do they will be quickly eliminated!
Perhaps next year a crap line all star team could be formed and they could try the state tourney. That way 11 teams from the RV, PN and SP could all deservingly make the tourney over these rapshod little hidden ball trick, affiliated, stick ball clubs who think they actually even partially understand the game of baseball.
Better yet since Im rolling here...how about The Crap Line merges with Felipe's Sunday league team and they start up the new Class D MN Amatuer Baseball league where if games are tied after seven then pull out a phy ed kick ball and get down on it until someone kicks in the winning run!!!!!

| Alright, I don't have a dog in this hunt, but I can't be the only one sick of listening to this guy whine about how bad the St. Paul teams are when all I've come here for is to get the playoff results.
Nobody is going to argue that teams like the Millers, Park, Pub, etc. are the cream of the crop they've gone out there and proved it year after year. The whole idea behind the tournament is to promote amateur ball throughout the state (or in the case of Class, throughout the metro area). And just as teams like the New York Yankees need the Kansas City Royals to have a league to play in, so do the teams from the western suburbs need the St. Paul teams to have a tournament. The fact that the Millers or Park win the thing just about every year is immaterial the important thing is that teams from Eden Prairie to Stillwater and everywhere in between have the opportunity to compete for it. And that's good for baseball, and good for the Cities.
From what I can gather, OT, you used to play for a Riverview team and are now pitching for Class B somewhere (Chaska, I think?). Instead of all the B.S., how about you put your money where your mouth is, and next summer, you have your team book games against teams like the Shamrocks, Capitals, Stockmen's, Moe's, or Air Freight. Instead of blowing a bunch of hot air on a message board, put yourself on the mound and man up.

| 204520: You obviously know nothing about me or what I am all about....I will put myself on the mound any time and "man up" trying my best as an old man (near 42) to beat anyone. Ask around if you don't beleive me.
I asked for the start against my former team Park this year and gave up 2 through 7. I was tired but wanted to go back out and gave up 3 in the 8th....my Chaska club won 6-5 in the bottom of the 9th.
I agains asked for the start against Tonka this year. Gave up 0 in the 1rst, 4 in the second, 3 in the third and 0's in the 4th and 5th. No excuses at all because the Millers are the only town ball dynasty in the state (I respect them clear across the board) but had the game been on grass I may have only given up 2-4 runs through five instead of 7......man up?
As far as my Chaska club per the B rules we are forced to include C games in our sub section schedule even though they don't count on our seeding they count for the C teams. All the B teams in the RVL hate that as we would love to play more A teams and B teams instead.
As far as some of our non-league games this year just so you know that Chaska does not shy away from any team at any time.
5-11 Mtka 1-11 Mtka 3-4 Sport and Spine 3-8 Team USA 7-5 Miesville 6-5 SLP 8-4 Angels 5-4 Police All Stars (MN, IL and NY) 5-4 Cold Spring
Our ace did not start any of those games and he may be the best town ball pitcher in the state.
Bottom line is because of our field we get asked to play dozens and dozens of teams every year at our place......we pick the best games we can fit in and obviously can't fit in all the teams on our schedule that want to play at our park.
As far as throwing against any team whether it is Park, Tonka, AF, Edge, Stockmens, Moes, whoever and whenever I would take the ball any day of the week so you can man up on that big cat.
What team do you play for? I could perhaps ask my superiors if we can get you on our schedule and you can be rest assured that I would ask to start that game just so you can't say I did not man up regardless of the outcome.....I mean seriously if I am going to ask for starts against Tonka and Park do you think I would shy away from any other team?

| OT - You're absolutely right that I don't know anything about your ability/performance as a player. That's not where I was going with my comment. What I was trying to convey is that there is a time and a place for expressing superiority over another baseball team/league/program and that place is between the lines.
I wasn't 100% sure if you pitched for Chaska or not, so thank you for confirming. Chaska is obviously one of the premier teams in Class B, and I don't think anyone would doubt that on any given day they can beat anyone in the state. But posts like the ones you've made over the past week only serve to denigrate amateur ball as a whole, and cheapen your own on-the-field accomplishments. If you're 42 and still pitching effectively in this league, that's obviously saying something.
I just don't understand why you feel the need to maliciously attack the teams that aren't Park, Tonka, etc., simply because they don't go out and win 40 games every year. We should celebrate that we're all out here still playing ball at a (reasonably) high level, and most of us are having fun doing it. I think a lot of us here on this forum would rather see your enjoyment come from what happens on the field, instead of coming at the expense of others.

Bottom line I wish all the teams and players the best of the luck in the A tourney and at my age it is a pleasure and honor to throw against any club regardless of their stature......seriously!
