| I read in the SLAB that after the FOY Champion is crowned that the top 3 teams from each of these leagues will square off against each other for bragging rights. Is this still going to occur? Who are the three teams from the FOY? Will there be an entrance fee to pay? If one of the top 3 teams can't pay the entrance fee, will other FOY teams be picked? Will any of the teams be like an all-star team, in other words, is it an open roster or do the teams have to use the same players they used throughout the FOY season? When will this be published so players can come and watch?

| I would like to do T-Shirts for this event I could probably do them for $10.00 a shirt that way we have something like a souvinier since this will be the 1st Year. So if your interested hit me up with sizes of your team the more shirts the cheaper the price. 618.520.9705 and next year the Angels will be in the Tourney!!!

| Below is the text from the article Bill is talking about. Sounds like it's all up to Johnny's manager Mark Lamoureux. MSBL playoffs won't even start until October, so scheduling won't be easy.
FOY vs. MSBL?? It’s been a debate for a long time. Which league has better competition? The Fountain of Youth in Cahokia or the St. Louis Men’s Senior Baseball League? Ask anyone in Cahokia and they will tell you, hands down it’s their league. Ask anyone in the MSBL and they will claim the best. Both leagues have been around a long time and have shared a lot of the same players. FOY has likened the MSBL to softball with the free substitution and batting as many as you’d like. In the last few seasons, the MSBL have tightened in competition and expanded to more teams while the FOY has shrunk in size, although the historically powerhouse teams still reside there. In October, 2010, we hope to answer the question while also starting a new tradition. Headed by Mark Lamoureux, Johnny’s manager, the FOY will host a tournament where the top 3 MSBL 25+ teams will head to Cahokia to compete with the 3 best FOY 27+ teams. The first ever FOY Invitational has begun being planned. The plan is to create a competitive tournament that does a few things. One, to settle the ageless debate of which league has the better competition. Two, schedule some matchups that have never taken place before. Three, Play a good tournament after the season in the nice October weather.

| My own personal take is that the MSBL now has a slight edge over FOY. I left the 28+ MSBL in 2000 when Gurk introduced me to the FOY. At the time, the FOY was significantly better than the MSBL. Since then, the MSBL has gotten bigger, better, and they dropped the age limit down to 25. I played in both leagues this year and I was surprised at how much the MSBL had improved. There's a lot of youth, speed, and live arms on the mound, even on the lower placed teams.
The biggest difference in the leagues is the age range. FOY doesn't have any older age brackets so the teams have a mix of ages. The MSBL teams seem to be almost all younger guys. Youger doesn't always mean better- hitting doesn't drop off much with age and pitchers get smarter and more accurate as they lose velocity. In the MSBL all star games, the 35/45 teams always beat the 18/25 teams. So youth helps, but not a lot.
The only cross league games I've heard of is when Johnny's cleaned up in the MSBL tourney a few years ago, including some out of town teams. The only way to know for sure which league is better is to play the games. If they do get played, I think they will be good, evenly matched games. And since my teams finished 6th in both leagues I won't be playing, but I will come out to watch.

| I think Lammy is leaving for Phoenix before the MSBL playoffs are over. Some feet dragging once again....If anyone in the FOY wants to head this thing, then I am sure that the Tribe, Longhorns and probably the Knights would be interested. I've got 5 dozen Diamond baseballs we could use....

Who pitches?
How many from each team?

| I like the All Star idea. It would be easier to get a full team to show up pulling from 8 teams, but the game still isn't going to happen without someone just taking over and doing it. The MSBL 25+ playoff bracket is out and the final game is scheduled for Thursday, 10/14 (although they'll have to schedule another game if the team from the loser's bracket wins that game). That would seem to make the following Saturday or Sunday the best days for a game. The MSBL Florida tournament isn't until November, so the guys playing in that may want to keep playing until then.
Archie seems to know about every player in the league by name, so he could give a good list of players. From my own team I'd nominate Steve Kraus (3B) and Kevin Anderson (CF).

| I'd be happy to come up with an MSBL All Star team. If the FOY want to do it in Cahokia, I'd supply baseballs. Each team could pay for an umpire (unless we want to do 4 umpires, then we could split that.)
I'll be out of town that weekend for a wedding, but I could put the team together and have someone else run it.
Is this something Archie would even be interested in?

| This could be done very easily if we get the Arch man on it. I think it would be a lot of fun. One 9 inning mash fest at Cahokia. To raise money we could do a HR derby before the game. 10 bucks to enter and 10 bucks per player nominated to play in the game or whatever it averages out to.

| With all the playoffs being pushed back Arch and I have decided not to put anything together this fall. We have come together on a date for a tournament for next year. All MSBL teams make note of these dates so when scheduling time comes around in early spring you can work this in. June 23-27. The format and # of teams will be worked out over the winter. We are going to try and incorporate a Home Run Derby in this. With the uncertainty of weather and not knowing when seasons will end this is the best way to do this. Good luck to everyone still in the playoffs and to the teams traveling to Arizona and Florida.

| SP- Eck, Johnny's C- Barry?, Cardinals 1B- Lefty from the Angels 2B- Howard, Curleys SS- Schmidt, Curleys 3B- Big dude from the As OF- Kroeger, Johnny's OF- Lewis, Curleys OF- Landmeier, Bulls DH- Greenwalt, Johnny's
RP- Duck, Sox RP- Maxfield, Curleys RP- Scott, Johnny's
Pretty solid lineup.
Tried to use stats, and memories...not sure what position Greenwalt plays, but his stats are good. Also, not sure if Howard is a 2B, but it's good to have his bat, and I think he played there once or twice.
Thoughts, critiques?

| I don't know enough guys by name to fill out a complete lineup. I'll just throw out a few changes / honorable mentions:
I'd have Pasqualone (Red Sox) at short. Mike O'Conner (Cards) at DH. Everybody's 1B can hit but I would go with Dean Lyon (Curleys). Kevin Anderson (A's) in the outfield somewhere. Add Ryan Bell (Cards) to the bullpen. (Rookie of the year?)
As a lefty, I'd rather face Duck than Eck as a starter, but it's a close call.
BTW- "big dude from the A's" = Steve Kraus

for the record, if you want to call someone a prick on this forum, you should use a name.
the term for people that take shot anonymously also has 5 letters and begins with "P"
ps: thanks Bill, sometimes it's just too easy.

| I would have to list Josh DeWitt from our Pirates for the 1st base position. This guy can hit, has a great glove at 1st base and is a great left-handed pitcher. We hadn't beat Johnnies, I think it's been a decade, and we actually won with him on the mound. There and many good 1st basemen in our league though, from Johnnies, Curleys, etc. so I could see them substituting often at this spot. Josh could DH too and even throw a few innings.

| I have read this thread with great interest. I would hope we could make this happen. I could not limit the squad to twelve players. I have composed a 25 man squad. We would need this many to compete in a nine inning game. I propose we play a 3 game series. I have chosen this blend of players to have experience, youth and baseball savvy to prevail in situational baseball.
1B Dean Lyon- Curleys Josh De Witt- Pirates
2B Steve Schmidt- Curleys Jamie McAllister- Red Sox
SS Mike Pasqualone- Red Sox Scot Goodrich- Johnnys
3B Steve Kraus- A's Jeff Plunkett- Cardinals
OF Chad Lembach- Johnnys Shawn Lewis- Curleys Corey Dickerson- Red Sox Josh Kroeger- Johnnys Chris Hughes- Angels
C Barry Grant- Cardinals Scott Davis- Johnnys
P Dave Duckworth- Red Sox Mark Echor- Johnnys Matt Maxfield- Curleys Matt Miller- Red Sox Jason Landmeier- Ragin' Bulls Darin Scott- Johnnys
Bench Matt Howard- Curleys Eric Greenwalt- Johnnys Chris Musskopf- Pirates Ernie Doirin- Cardinals
Mgr Archie Reid- Red Sox Coaches John Murray- Johnnys Chuck Diering- A's Honorable Mention The All-Time HR King Mike O'Conner- Cardinals
As with any squad some good players are left off. We could have more pitchers, but sprinkled among the position players are some guys that can give us some innings.
The bench guys are versatile players that can contribute in many situations, especially with the bat and and the wheels. I'll let you figure out who brings what to the table.
Since I formed the squad, I get to run the show. My coaches may have rubbed a few people, but their baseball knowledge is not to be questioned. And to the HOF Mike O'Conner you are our connection to our rich history. I would hope you would join on this journey
