| This mainly pertains to tournaments...Rec leagues that are independant will still have their choice. In Taunton's league, Utrip tried to enforce the mush ball and Taunton then went and trained their own umpires to go to NSA. No matter what, there are millions of dollars in bats that are out there before the ABI (Advanced Break in) bats that won't simply be left on the shelves. For those that don't know the ABI, it's basically any bat manufactured prior to 2010. All ASA approved bats should still be legal for all Utrip play no matter what. Sure, they'll reduce the BPF for the future, but all leagues will still have the choice to govern their own rules.

| Ok heres my 2 cents.....you will never ever level the playing field for this simple reason....take guys like ernie wright and chris knight....no matter what kind of bat u put in there hands if its composite...metal or wood they could seriously hurt somebody....my opinion is if your afraid to get hurt then stay the fuck home and dont play...plain and simple...and this is coming from me who got hurt playing softball 8 yrs ago and was out of work for 14 months with no income at all and to this day has never recovered...but also is coming from someone who is not aloud on the field by any team that i play on..if ur worried about everyones safety then maybe the number one rulE in softball should be....DONT EVER WALK ERNIE WRIGHT....THIS WILL PUT EVERYONES LIFE IN DANGER ON THE OPPOSING TEAM.....tHIS WHOLE FUCKING SPORT IS SO MONEY DRIVEN BY A BUNCH OF CLOWNS ...AND ALSO A SPORT WHERE NOBODY MAKE S MONEY TO PLAY IT...EXCEPT FOR THAT SUPERSTAR KIRBY MURPHY...its all a bunch of horse shit...so now everyones bats that they have had for over the yrs are gonna be no good in 2012..just so these pricks can make billions of more dollars on these new bats. maybe they should take all big vehicles off the road because if they collide with the small vehicle they will be crushed..... im gonna start a cult and avenge on all these pricks that think they know it all douchebags............................................................ sorry i just felt it necassary to explode like demonti does

| So just put it to a vote.... if league votes to keep old bats,no need to buy new ones unless you plan on playing tournaments. Sponorships should pick up the tab on new bats for those.

| I'd love to know what the bat companies bottom lines look like in comparison to 10 years ago. Composite bats cost more, but if you don't cheat they last for years. I got 3 1/2 years out of a Jeff Hall Mayhem while using it in several Turkey Trots when the temperatures were in the 40's. Aluminum bats would dent and need to be replaced on a yearly basis. On a side note, I played Twilight this year against a team that didn't hit a single HR against us at City Park. Now I am playing the same team at Clegg in Fall ball and they are hitting them out even to the opposite field with a very "questionable" composite bat. It really makes me want to vomit. What really pisses me off is that the bat companies surely can manufacture bats that are tamper proof. Instead, they makes bats that are fairly easy to alter which reduces their lifespan and they sell more bats. I just hate the fact that when nowadays when I play games I feel like I am bringing a knife to a gun fight because so many guys are using illegal bats.

I didn't want to go here, but when I watched he Finals this year I heard a loads players in the league, including some who were playing, raise questions about the legality of some bats being used in the game. I have no clue whether it's true or not, but it sucks that in a very good 3 game Finals all the talk was about a bat, not some of the leagues best players. I have no problem with you Mike. People tell me you are a good guy. But you aren't the only one allowed to have an opinion and share it on the board. Thanks for calling me little though. | Ryno started growing his winter fur coat about 25 years ago. Have a nice hibernation! As for bats I think that anything in Knight and Lesniak's hand should be considered a lethal weapon. Kirby doesn't even deserve mention for the level of sandbagging he is doing whenever he appears in our league. The guy hits a mushball 450 feet at will. I will say that anyone that uses a shaved bat is being a moron. The potential to kill someone and be sued alone should be deterrent enough. How many of us have tried to hit an opposite field homerun only to get just a bit on top of the ball and hit it straight back at the pitcher. With a shaved bat that ball could have killed the pitcher instead of gone off his glove. That reason alone should be enough to convince you it's a bad idea. Never mind the simple fact that it is fuckin cheating. I have never and will never use a shaved bat. I had to join twilight and swing non composites this year with Guapo just to make a believer out of him!
I think forcing people to buy new bats for 2012 is just plain retarded. I hope it is all bullshit but anything is possible. Any sanction that forces you to move up a division after placing in the top 10 for the national tournament but will allow you to drop back down if you pay X number of dollars is a fuckin joke anyway. I happen to really enjoy the USSSA arc more than the other sanctions and their umpires are far superior to their NSA and ASA counterparts, but the sanction is run at least on the national level by a bunch of money grubbing assclowns.

If anything the new bats make jokes like you barely hit it out of foster and change a game you have no business playing in. Am I one of the best players in the league at age 43? Not by a long shot, but I would think if you'd ask anyone that has played me they will tell you that I can still help good teams win. I am never a fan of people who toot their own horns, but I did bat in the middle of a lineup that won two championships so that must mean I have some measure of ability.
I'm glad all the LEGO's I donated to your toy drive last Christmas earned me the pleasure of getting lambasted on a personal level.

| Using a shaved bat is douchey if anyone is for a number of reasons that EW touched on such as hurting, maiming or killing someone.
A shaved bat definitely makes hitters better because the ball comes off the bat quicker which means ground balls and line drives and fly balls do carry not only further but faster, which is the real key.
No one around here is pd to play and we all occasionally mishit one at the pitcher
I DEFINITELY do not condone shaved bats and if anyone on any team I run were to swing them and I found out, I would cut them immediately.
I have no problem with rolling a bat because you are just breaking it in quicker, who has time to take BP to break a bat in, but shaving is a no-no.
I also am not accusing anybody of it either, it is almost impossible to prove so why talk about it, we play based on the honor system.
I at 46, am a finess, punch and judy hitter so I don't want a bat with any extra juice I like my well placed pop ups and well placed ground balls.
Timebomb go easy on Guapo your both good dudes and he doesn't understand your sick sense of humor.
In fact we need those Mikey pictures from, I believe Dan's Place that wonderful night a few months ago, boy was he,oops I mean she HOT. Cmon Ian put them back up.

| I know there were a lot of accusations by people that J's bat that people on CM used was altered. All I can say is that it is not and if anyone wants to put the time and money into having it sent out to be tested feel free. All we ask is that when it comes back please just replace it if it comes back clean. Rather than bitch and moan and say we cheat here is your chance. | I feel the need to stick up for Guapo also known as Dean Amoroso. Hinske, I'm sure you are just trying to be funny but Dean is one of the best players around. He is still a sought after hitter and a pretty damn good pitcher (even though I do love hitting off him). He is 43 and still one of the best hitters in our sunday morning league. He does all the little things right and is a great teammate. I hate to see him get bashed on here for his unhappiness with bats. I think we all know that shaved bats are being used. You need to look no further than the bat posted on Ebay by Mark Yehle earlier this year or late last year to see a prime example. He was a player on A plus a few years ago for those of you that do not know who Mark is.
Chris as for your claims that the bat was legit... in no way would i accuse you of needing a shaved bat to hit the ball out of ravenwoods, but even the umpires were waiting for someone to get struck with a ball to take that bat out of play. It is possible that it is just well broken in. It is possible that there was nothing wrong with that bat, but let's face it when some guys that aren't known for their power were hitting home runs that were going 350 feet almost at will i must say something seems fishy. I won't be paying for any bats to be checked out and in the bigger picture it doesn't matter if the bat was shaved. You guys won and congratulations, but Dean is right when he says that bats in this league aren't all on the up and up. To those guys that are always going to get questioned like Knight, Lesniak, Playa, and Kirby that just comes with the territory and it does suck, but thank those teammates and fellow league members that cause the controversy by swinging that nice new shaved piece from Artie... I mean Ebay.

| Agreed Ernie. The only thing I would like to add, and this is not said with any piss and vinegar, is who hit homeruns with that synergy that does not hit them? Duce actually hit less homeruns this year than last. Mello didn't hit many at all. I know everyone points a finger at J. For those who were in the league when we won it last time J was hitting pinch hit homeruns for us and crushed the ball way back then. On top of that I played ball with J from little league through legion and he crushes the ball plain and simple. I am defending him because everyone points fingers at him because he teh size of a smurf. I can honestly say j is one of the strongest people I know and has been since junior high. I am not saying for his size I am saying compared to anyone any size. I agree with you that a few apples cause eyebrows to raise everytime a ball flys. The guys on CM know whats what and it doesn't bother us when people question bats on our team. Anytime you win or have success people question it and so be it. We are a close team of all friends that just laugh when we hear it. I am sure you get a chuckle out of it to because you have no need to get any advantage. I am sure you are like me and if I cannot play the way I want then I will retire before I cheat. The funny thing is that Neil has the same identical synergy to jimmy that we will be swinging this year because J's bat is gonna break at some point. Once that happens his bat will be questioned by people in the league too. It's all good. There are athletes in this league (or I should say former atheletes turned softball players) that are just gifted. I love the people tha tnever played a sport in their life, have success on the softabll field and think they can call out people that have been top tier atheltes in the state in their hay day. It's just funny and I get it kick out of it as anyone who played real sports does too.

Hinske is funny and Im sure no harm intended B Dean is one of the best hitters in the league and when you combine the fact that he pitches that makes him one of the best 10 players in the league..EZ...right up there with me, EW, Pete, Neil, and Thacker. And dont start with ThackSmack...I predict a breakout year next year. C. I havent heard anybody say that CM won the Championship because of a shaved bat. I have heard that the bat was very hot, however,..mostly from Matt Clark. They would have won even if they were swinging plumbers wrenches. D. Yeah, the Reebok Bat gift to Hinske was a diabolical plan...reducing Hinske into a muttering popup machine by seasons end. I know for a fact there was a dirty bat on Botehlo's. I am not saying that it was used by any means but why even have one? I have fun playing every team in the league and there are always a few douchebags that you can't stand but it is what it is. WOur team gets along with every team so when you hear people runnign their mouths about you all we do is take a mental note and move on for when we play them. Again i am not calling anyone out. I think the new balls we used actaully helped weed out true power hitters in the league. If you look at several top hitters last year and then look at their stats this year its almost comical. I would love to call out several of them but thats not me. Our team jokes about it because no matter what ball or bat is used our team always feels we have the advantage with the guys on our team.

| I would love to know who said the bat was very hot because how would they even know. That is the funny part. Oh J hit a ball 330 out of raven woods, that bat must be shaved. That is what it comes down too. If you ever watch J play he will go 3 - sunday and it looks like he is going to throw his back out everytime he swings. So when he does make contact it flies. I suppose his cleats must be dirty too because he is one of the fasted guys in the league too. J send those cleats out to be tested!!

| I have said my peace about all of this, maybe too much. I will end it by saying good luck to everyone next year and everything i said prior is not said to start any BS with anyone. I just wanted to defend my team and more importantly my friends. | The record on this is foggy: i didnt hear any person on our team say that we lost because CM had a shaved bat. Not one. The only guys that hit it out that I recall were J and Chris Knight and they hit them out of anywhere with any bat. A couple of Goodwins bloops were less bloopy than normal...but he wasnt even using the bat in question. Wait, that means they had two shaved bats. Those fuckers. One shaved bat is just plain trying hard to win. But TWO? Lags bat should be checked as well. God knows how much it weighs AS IT NEVER LEFT HIS SHOULDER! Delete this thread. Its silly to argue bats. No bat ever won a game nor a championship.

Only reason I play is because EW makes the teams take me on, as a charity case, because he is so awesome and can get what he wants whenever he wants it. I been around tourney ball for a long time and if a shaved bat is being used by someone in the league, who gives a shit, it doesn't guarantee you will win.
My only contention, and I'm not accussing anyone, but if someone is using one stay off the middle cause I hate the sight of blood and wouldn't want someone getting hurt because of that, it is hard enough to be a pitcher.

| I had to come out of hibernation for this. My intent to posting that rule notification was not to induce a shaved bat argument for the 200th time but to inform that current bats are only grandfathered through 2012. So a guy like me where my bat only gets used by me, little Dave, and sometimes Stevens, it doesn't take alot of abuse or get hit very hard. So I figured it would last me a few years. Now I will have to buy a new one if I continue to play past 2012.
As for the shaving you need to accept that you topped out at a certain level. I am a .600 hitter with a little power. It probably puts me in the top 20-25 (guessing) hitters in the league. I am fine with that because I know my equipment is legit, and I am just an old hairy ape. I know some guys that have rolled theirs and I know some guys have the connections to shave, but I really don’t know who has one in his bag. I know Delpadre doesn’t because he sucks and he should get one.
Knight is a freak and can hit with a broomstick. My glove is still deformed from the rocket he hit at me over the middle in the playoffs. I gloved it and it blew through my glove so hard that it reached Tmac in the outfield. I can still out rebound him though.
At the risk of being accused of cupping balls, I played in non-composite leagues this year with or against EW, Ricky, Lags, Neil, and a few others. I don’t know if they have shaved composites in their bags or not. What I do know is none of them need them. They all mashed with older metal bats when I played with them.
Hinske is a Pepsi man. Now that was a funny response!
Demonti cheats at everything he does. Hitting, shuffleboard, golf, taxes, bingo, math, basketball, and hungry hungry hippos.
